Importance of home games

I just wanted to find out when the contract with the SFS finishes. I mean it is really farcical that we are not playing all our home games at either Campbelltown or Leichardt. Yes I understand we have been getting a guaranteed gate from the SFS games but downside is we are losing supporters, it's time to dump the SFS.

I agree. But this has been brought up before. LO is a loss and Campbelltown breaks even. We should not have to rely on SFS but this is a sad financial requirement.

I usually only go to SFS games nowadays, generally the ''best'' games, guaranteed seat, guaranteed undercover….beats standing on a muddy incline in the rain for the same price

We may not be as viable to the big stadiums as we once were, once the dosh dries up, it really dries up

We'd actually probably be turning supporters (and more importantly members) away if we played just at Leichhardt and Campbelltown. We can only fit so many people into those grounds, and we should be aspiring to have more than 18,000 people supporting our club every week, that won't happen if we ditch the SFS. That in addition to an up-front payment, received at a time of year when other income is minimal, is exactly why the current arrangement fits well.

dont give a crap tbh.
i know there are different departments who deal with this lalala but if i hear an announcement of "we're changing homegrounds" "we're changing jerseys" "we're changing waterboys" "we're changing our customer base from humans to dogs" etc. before a "______________ will be our coach for 2013 for __ years" the club will sink really low in my eyes

Until we sell out leichhardt and campbelltown then i can not fully support a presence SFS

If the income is drying up as eluded to, maybe we need more games at the SFS?

It's not only the guaranteed income per game but the opportunity to make more money from corporate sponsors & boxes compared to LO & Campbeltown. I love watching footy at suburban grounds but I can see a day in the future that all our big games will be played at the SFS with only 2-3 games played at LO & 2-3 games played at Campbeltown.

I love the games at SFS and given we get bigger crowds thier then we do at the other gorunds perhaps we should be having more games thier not less.

I wasn't the biggest fan of going to the SFS a few years back. But the facilities there are very good and we do tend to have some of our better performances in home games there.

Thread is based on a false premise

We don't lose support by taking games to the SFS , we gain support by taking them

Of all our home games , the SFS has the highest average crowd ,
From a business perspective it would make more sense to take more games to the SFS

Reasons for more games at Ctown and Liechardt are all sentimental

Agree with everyone else in this thread. Campbo and Leichardt are not fortresses…in fact we usually save our worst performances for these two grounds.

The SFS is made for football, has excellent facilities, attracts bigger crowds and provides the JV with more capital. Its a no brainer for mine.

That is true, but look at the quality of opposition for each ground:

LO:
Cronulla
Warriors
Roosters
Melbourne

CSS:
Raiders
Cowboys
Panthers
Eels

SFS:
Rabbitohs
Broncos
Bulldogs
Dragons
Roosters

LO isn't too bad, but CSS is terrible. You'd struggle to come up with worse.

Don't know about that assessment. Warriors and Roosters were woeful this year and the Melbourne game was pretty much a dead rubber. At least the Panthers and Eels are close by - LO got the worst 2 supported clubs in Sydney and 2 out of state teams…

Having said that, the whole Cambo v LO debate has been done to death. If we play well, fans will come to both grounds in pretty equal amounts. If we play rubbish or have stupid scheduling (e.g. the constant obsession with MNF out at Campbelltown!!) people will stay away.

Yeah that's true. No matter who we played in that round 26 game, we were never going to get a decent crowd. Panthers and Eels might be close by but with how they performed this year it's no surprise that fans didn't turn up to those either.

It would be interesting to see what our deal with the SFS actually is. If we get a set amount for playing games at the SFS, we would be better off playing the interstate/poor teams there (since we are guaranteed a set amount of money) and using the bigger draw sides for LO/CSS to boost numbers at those grounds. It would also help make them more like fortresses if we can fill them up.

I'm guessing it's not that easy though, or it would have been done by now.

We do get a set amount for playing at the SFS but I'm guessing they get some say in the choice of games. I believe at the Olympic Stadium there was an additional amount paid if our attendance was over a certain threshold - I'm not sure if this is the case at the SFS. The deal is pretty lucrative so you'd think there is something built in to ensure they weren't given the dud games.

With the financial state of the club at the moment for next year I would play all games out of SFS and the extra 700 grand to relieve some of the burden a one year deal surely as supporters we could live with this.

Of course they get a say in our opponents…thats always been the case.
