Exceptional question. I wish I knew the answer.
@Brisbane Tiger said:Well why ask the question?

There are people that get Origin. And there are people like you.
I am devastated, as I was devastated the last 7 years.
This is no marketing strategy. This is what League is all about.

Try telling that to the 34 players involved last night. You must be bonkers if you think they don't care whether they win or lose.
@stryker said:When I played I always strived to make rep sides because they were the true indicator of just how good you were as a player. Whilst I admit I didnt make too many, the ones I did play in were burnt into my memory and the pride and friendships forged remain to this day….some of them 20 years old. SOO is shown around the world and is the greatest show piece of this awesome sport. It is still relevant.
@stryker said:You cant tell me Origin means less to the players and fans than it used to. Forget about the Melbourne game, that was bordering on exhibition…the Sydney and Brisbane games were both crackers played in front of sold out crowds bursting with rabid fans who loved every minute of it.
The hatred may have diminished somewhat...but it is still there and we are seeing some extraordinary games of football. Club football does not compare one iota.

Perhaps I am not illustrating my point well enough. Ok…
1\. SOO is a great game. It shows how good the game can be when you remove a significant constraint.
2\. Yes, players care about getting rep jerseys. That will never change. The mateship etc will always be there, but at the end of the careers, do players remember winning an origin series or a grand final? Take JT for example, I reckon he would trade all his winning origin series for a premiership
However, in either 1 or 2, the RESULT is inconsequential.
