Information Session for Magpie Members

The WA idea will not fly (pardon the pun). WA already has a team in the bundy cup.

I struggle with the idea of wests tigers deserting the Macarthur area. The terms of the JV are fair apart from some incorrect perception in the media and amongst fans. Wests tigers marketing needs to address these perceptions.

In saying that, western suburbs does themselves no favour and it stems back to the 90's. The club cries for the MacArthur area to be recognised, yet western suburbs does not fully align themselves to the area. You have to question the magpies commitment to the area if they still refuse to leave their inner west roots. Clearly wests ashfield is important in this sense.

Regardless, if the magpies were serious about the area, they should embrace the powerful tiger logo, release the magpie and rename themselves "MacArthur District rugby league football club."

Would that mean wests tigers become the MacArthur tigers? Who knows? However it would assist with getting more sponsorship in the MacArthur area, possibly to the detriment of inner city sponsors. However, so long as we continue to play at the sfs and leichhardt, I still think the club would be an attractive proposition for sponsors

I agree that all that's required is for Wests Tiger's marketing to address some fairness. We are Wests Tigers & Macarthur/Liverpool will remain as a nursery for our team. Our team is Wests Tigers. I'm a passionate Magpie who will be at the meeting but hope there are no radical ideas/suggestions raised on the day. The NSW cup issue is a concern & it is unfair what happened this year but we must work around it so things are different next year.

well i hope it is different next year

If Wests are silly enough to go down the Perth path they will become completely extnct!
As much as I loved Wests being in the comp it's pretty common knowledge the Tigers had the stronger brand - and as a former Balmain supporter I'd be fighting for the Tiger logo if it was going to disappear but I think the move to WA won't be the answer for Maggie supporters.

Whats the answer cktiger for some equity in the wests brand? I dont want to feel like a steelers fan looking for the illawarra brand within the dragons but it does feel that way.

I thought Western Suburbs Magpies would rather move to western Brisbane instead of Perth. That way they could still be called Western Suburbs Magpies.

is all this stuff about magpies breaking up with balmain and relocating just something that one of the magpies supporters thought of?

Something that can be asked next week at the info session. Curious to see what WSDRLFC has planned for 2012 and beyond!

1\. Realise that the balmain district is practically "inner-city" and will no longer be a source of players to come.

Inner west is growing at a faster rate than the macarthur region
Junior RL playing numbers are just as strong in the Inner west as out west.
**This argument is invalid**

2\. Realise that there are too many clubs, like balmain, near Sydney.

Yes, there are too many clubs.

3\. Realise that there is a production line of players coming up from the Liverpool- Mcarthur district.

No one doubts that, but there is also a production line of players coming from the inner west too. Holy Cross, for example, keeps pumping out player after player. **This argument is invalid**

4\. Realise this talent needs to be funnelled into a club who is represented in the top grade every second weekend in the district whom kids can aspire to playing for..

Fair enough

5\. Realise the threat from aussie rules in the greater west.

not sure about the seriousness of this thread, but ok

6\. Realise that Wests Tigers merger will never be based in the growing south-west of Sydney.

how? why? as per the terms of the JV, there is a 50:50 ratio. In fact there have been MORE games played at Campbelltown than Leichhardt. That's not including the countless trial games! **This argument is a fallacy**

6\. Realise that if a team needs to be relocated, it should be balmain and they can become the Perth or W.A. Tigers as it will be no great loss to the Sydney pool of junior players and indeed, supporters to come in future years.

hahaha yep. PS. 7 comes after 6

7\. Realise that the Liverpool-Campbelltown area needs it own team, i.e. Western Suburbs Magpies

It had one and it failed. It was called the Wests Magpies

8\. Realise that it'd sort a lot of things out, a) creating a W.A. team (under a tigers banner), for expansion, and b) Having the Wests Magpies representing the South-West of Sydney in an area craving for Rugby League.

so what about

9\. Leichhardt keeps getting huge crowds, bigger than Campbelltown. Clearly there is greater demand for league is in the inner-west.

10\. The tigers brand is strong. As per previous threads, the number of young people wearing Balmain jerseys demonstrates just how much more demand there is for the Tigers. Meanwhile demand for Wests is limited to a small group of hard-core followers.

Kul good work mate…...Its always the west side whining......what is unfair about the joint venture.....its so close to 50-50 its npt worth arguing about......illawarra got half their home games thats all they got.

Since 2000\. 50 games have been held at each venue.
Wests Tigers Crowds
Leichhardt 675817\. Avg. 13516
Campbelltown 649485\. Avg 12990

It can be argued that the old Wests fans from the pre-Campbelltown old territory Wests area ie Burwood, Ashfield, Concord etc find Leichhardt very accessible as well hence you probably get a combined mixture of old fans at Leichhardt where as at Campbelltown you don't.

It's is interesting to note that Of the 5 lowest ever WT crowds, 4 of them have been at Leichhardt oval.

Wests Tigers average 19495 per game at the SFS !!!!!

There still is a very strong( Magpie) Weststiger supporter base in the Lidcombe area and areas there abouts including inner west ..this talk about going to Perth or where ever is crazy for a start they will not get a licience from the NRL and the locals of the new venture will not support it as it is a Sydney club relocating. This was always the problem with the Magpies never had any vision just to short sighted ,the right way to go is merge Premier league and the Magpie and Balmain brand will remain in the junior leagues. To be honest this stuff about juniors will be finished with the new TV rights deal clubs will just buy who they want from what ever nursery has the talent whether this is good or not I would say this is the future of junior RL and NRL individual clubs will not bother with junior leagues this will be the area where Wests Magpies & Balmain will continue IMO this is there place in the future.

I personally don't want us going to Perth as I think the Wests Tigers give our youth the best shot at making it in the NRL , and I don't think Perth would really want our identity when they can have their own.

Plus Perth should get and needs 12 home games a year over there if they get in.

If Perth doesn't have enough good juniors then having a team relocate over there and keeping a connection to where they are from would benefit them.
