Information Session for Magpie Members

Western Suburbs only formed a joint-venture with Balmain because of the stupid criteria list that the NRL had. I'm not exactly sure why Balmain was higher on that list than Wests when the Campbelltown Wests area seemed to have a stronger future, and I'm not trying to offend Balmain by saying that. The NRL was a bit short-sighted. The NRL also got rid of Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast and South QLD which they shouldn't have done. We now have a Gold Coast team again, and hopefully another South QLD/second Brisbane team soon, so we are slowly getting back to what we already had over 10 years ago. Who knows how long it will be until we get a Perth team and an Adelaide team back. This was all happening whilst the AFL were spreading it's wings.

Western S uburbs only formed a joint venture BECAUSE Balmain invited them .Stop dreaming and telling porkies Alien ,we are still here because Balmain decided to merge with us ,and not with the Parra scum.
Love it or leave it.

If Balmain had have chose to merge with Parramatta, the club would be called the Parramatta Tigers playing out of Parramatta Stadium and Wests would be playing in the same comp as Perth, Adelaide and South Queensland Crushers.

Spot on Chris, I will add that if Balmain failed to merge with wests or someone else we would be in the same comp as Perth, Adelaide and South Queensland Crushers as well.

For me Alls well that ends well. We won in 2005, got close in 2010 and 2011 is not over yet.

Possibly. I actually think Wests and Canterbury would have been forced into a shotgun wedding which would have practically been a takeover. I actually believe this was the preferred scenario of the NRL at the time.

The Wests and Balmain JV came as a surprise to many.

1/4 chicken, chips balmain are irrelevant now its the Wests Magpies juniors that are the future of the club and not the balmain juniors

OK… So Aaron Woods, Matt Groat, Curtis Sironen, Benny Murdoch, Jacob Miller... AKA (The Future of Wests Tigers) Are ALL MAGPIE JUNIORS ARE THEY??
I love the Maggies... But be a little realistic!!

Groat played 3 years for Wests junior reps. St Gregs boy I believe from the country.

Murdoch-M - Keebra Park

Miller - Roosters

Woods, Sironen - Balmain reps

People need to realise you can't have one without the other.

I'm on it Staks… Well said!!
Yeah Matty G is from Griffith (Ish) Out Rankin Springs way...
BUT If I had a dollar for every time I heard the Maggies supply ALL the Money and ALL the Juniors to WT..
I'd own the Wests Tigers....

Well that's it. For me it isn't whether A is better than B or B is better than A, it's knowing that A+B gives us a massive advantage over other teams.

your are kidding, just go back to the 2009 Grand Final Day there were 18 Balmain juniors that played that day across all 3 grades ,it is true the Magpies have got a large junior base but where are they all? theres not much difference the amount per capita compared to Balmains Juniors,to say Balmain dont contribute any juniors is ignorance.Even in the Magpies state cup side now have 2 Balmain juniors, add how many that are in NYC and Bret,We need both football clubs to develop our future players .

This thread is about the upcoming information session for Magpies members. IT IS NOT ANOTHER WESTS V BALMAIN thread. Please stick to the topic.

Well the porkies and the memory is pretty bad, everyone was shocked when Balmain at the 11 th hour decided to bring in Western Suburbs as the JV partner. West didnt want a bar of the Bulldogs and were heading out the back door fast . Blamain had qualified criterior wise.My advise to you Alien is to enjoy the Wests tigers or stick to your Magpies. Its so blatant who you still support.

i support wests tigers and wests magpies. why dont you mind your own business anyway. i dont like being stalked

thats right because the bulldogs didnt want any home games at campbelltown and also the team would have been western bulldogs instead of 'wests bulldogs' or 'western suburbs bulldogs'

Looks like the natives are restless. Shame people can't stick to the facts to put forward an opinion and need to resort to attacking each other like spoilt little children.

willow, time to do that magic thing you do that puts a lock picture on a topic. You know the one…

Your hard to miss alien.

Wests merged or they would have been kicked out its as simple as that.

Balmain made the criteria and because nrl back then said they were cutting 2 more teams in the upcoming years and then balmain were in danger of been kicked out themselves in the years to follow.nrl didnt cut anymore teams and in hindsight if balmain stuck solid and didnt panic we would have survived. In the end we also had meriton if we wanted to go down the road of privitisation.

Both teams had other options but the right choice was made as the other were takeovers.

Im with batboy the myth of wests supplying all the juniors is just that.

It is a myth

On average both Wests and Balmain supply the same amount of juniors each year…somewhere between about 5 - 7 each.

Keebra supply a couple but a lot also come from outside our area...well probably the majority do. Don't know but it is pretty much 50/50 Balmian/Wests.

Wests juniors aren't any better than Balmain juniors...some of them just think they are.

if balmain stuck solid and didnt panic we would have survived.

You keep telling yourself mate. Both the Magpies and Balmain would have been out of the NRL. The merger was necessary for survival.
