The jv was essential for both clubs at the time… Remember that leichhardt oval didnt pass the nrl ground criteria. Seems crazy when u look back at it now. Balmain and wests were sacrificed into one team for initial rationalisation with expansion down the track (more tv dollars for more games in diff parts of australia) just like newtown and wests were targeted in 1982 to make room for illawarra and canberra. Money and tv rights is what brought us to wests tigers.

we get players from all over the place including both wests and balmain. we have had more from wests and probably will in the future but we still get some good ones from balmain. its probably why if wests and balmain merge at sg ball and harold matthews level those 2 sides will be based out at campbelltown

Sorry Alien but you do not have a clue on the juniors issue.Even the ones you class as Wests juniors are spotted from a country town by a talent scout and placed in a local or feeder school system .just admit it big guy your Magpies all the way ,and Tigers come second every day of the week.

Lawrence, Fulton, Gibbs, Groat, Dwyer and up and comers like Tedesco and Noafaluma played junior reps at Wests - Farah, Woods, and Curtis Sironen did the same for Balmain - most of the rest are imports.

The Wests Tigers do, in my opinion need to be a wee bit more vigilant when it comes to the juniors in the Wests junior area as blokes like Hayne, Folau, and dare I mention Krisnan Inu were all missed by the magpie system.

Israel Folau moved to Queensland when he was what 13? 14? Not sure about the other two but there's only so much you can do when families move out of an area. Ryan Hoffman leaving was a lot worse

Yeah that's true with Izzy.
The other two however, plus going back to guys like the Minichello brothers, Hoffman like you mentioned etc and I even think that Jacob Loko guy is another one Parra have nabbed …
