Inside look into Tigers Management/Negotiations

Many valid points. Easy to sound like an expert when your hind sighting, different when your actually negotiating and he did clearly say that. Having said that I’m not sure who this guy is and what credential he has other than he is a property developer. There are about a million property developers in Sydney who will have made money in the last 10 years because of a booming market.

Stick a podcast mic in someone’s face and they are an expert.

One thing I whole heartedly agree with is that our club has some serious issues on and off the field and until we sort them out we will not progress.

Ive listened to 80% of the podcast. Found it entertaining and in some parts thought provoking. I think Adrian is pretty much on target in identifying the problems, as are many posters on the forum, we've heard it all. His interactions with Board members had me in fits LOL.
Identifying the problems is easy, its the solutions which will get us out of the mess. We can keep painting over the cracks or we can make changes to the way we do business, organisational behavioural changes, which will have a long term benefit.
I disagree with Adrian on his dominant solution, which is to pay Wayne Bennett $2m a season to attract 80% of the team he wants which we pay 10-20% overs for. Just painting over the cracks imo

Happy to see this thread. Great listen. It really just highlighted the fears that I had about Pascoe and the organisation in general. The guy has to go.

It’s not Pascoe in isolation, he is competent in his role. It’s the management structure in general and the lack of focus and attention in regard to what i would call the ‘football operations’ department.

Our management has identified a gap. Hence the appointment of Sheens.

But I am concerned that we have asked Sheens to head up this division with no actual structure in place and no plan of how that division should operate.

I think WT are on the right track towards advancement. Slowly divest ourselves of on field responsibilities and focus on promoting our success in reality TV. Great for marketing and sales, and by now fans have given up on any hope of on field success anyway. Looking forward to Wests Tigers 2. Logies here we come.

Kinda like the Anna Kornikova of the NRL you reckon?

It seems the plan is to trot out Sheens in public relations when needed..

From what I can understand, there have been a number of new positions created with appointments prior to the Sheens appointment.
I’m still stuck on the way Pascoe publicly introduced Sheens’ appointment. His job description was vague. It sounded like “hey Sheens has agreed to come back, we just need to agree on what his tasks and areas of responsibility are.”
If they knew, they weren’t saying, or they didn’t know? Take your pick? I think they didn’t know and still don’t because now he has a new job title?
It’s hard to know what’s going on ?
The usual practice when developing an organisation is to chart positions with job descriptions according to the needs of its overall objectives. Then you look for people to fill those roles. It may take time to find the right people, but when you do that’s when the magic happens, as those people interact with each other and roles are modified in accordance with consideration to the strengths of each person.
I realise many organisations have opted to find people first , then find a job for them, but taking that literally is hit and miss and takes too long imo.

The face of the club it seems. But will that help in negotiations if he doesn’t have the business clout required to close a deal?
I personally believe that is one of Pascoe’s Strengths but his lack of football understanding and judgment doesn’t assist when it comes to selling the club and its vision.

I don’t think it’s too radical but I believe we should split the organisational structure and have two divisions Football Administration and Football Operations. With equal priority to both divisions.
With the heads of both divisions reporting directly to the board.

Sounds like the rantings of a blow hard who has his nose out of joint that the club doesnt take him seriously. Talks a lot about how he is a "professional business man" and then goes on to air dirty laundry publicly. I deal with actual self made businessmen regularly and they dont air their dealings out like this. Totally unprofessional.

Everyone here is raving about this podcast because of confirmation bias. It reinforces their opinion of the club so lets put this guy on a pedestal. He talks all about what a successful business he has and how close he is to the club .........but never sponsored the club? He wants the club to listen to him.....why?

Glad you raised this. I was chatting to someone very high up at the Storm and is a CEO of a multi billion $$ organization yesterday about this & he laughed at the thought of a Billionaire being knee deep in players negotiations to the extent of having such frequent chats with key personal at a club, players and players managers. He just went into fits of laughter as to if anyone like that would even be involved in junior retention also.

He said if that was happening it highlights how bad the Tigers are for letting multiple people meddle in recruitment decisions rather then club driving and would explain why calls don’t get returned because you would need a mini call center to handle everything.

We are quite literally 10years behind the Panthers.
Gus even said we won’t see the benefit of this till 2030. I don’t know Sheens personally nor Gus but I am asking to the forum if anyone does because as stated above the club has decided to get Sheens back to the club just to be involved. Become a mr football if you like and solve all the problems.

Is anyone confident that Sheens has equal experience to do this, just as Penrith did in 2011 when Gus was appointed as General Manager of Football. There was no title of that nature before that. Now a lot of clubs have jumped on board and appointed similar people in a similar role, us included. But this was also Hartigans position and despite his supporters I don’t see enough in his resume to confirm he was the person we needed to appoint for such an ‘encompassing’ role.

Why the hell would the club listen to this guy? Seriously. Because he is a"big" businessman?

EDIT: Deleted dome stuff I said that was way too unnecessarily personal.

Sounds like you’re getting a bit personal to me.

I hope he didn’t hurt your daddy’s Justin and Lee’s feelings too much.

I like how Gould is commending the appointment of Sheens and how good he is at identifying junior pathways. In the meantime Gould is looking to enter the Campbelltown area for the Bulldogs growth area, and also poaching out Flegg players, smart operator, not like our mob.

When Gould is involved with a football club ...his comments are solely around benefitiing his whole club .....

I think Gould is one of the finest minds in the game ...when he is just solely a commentator ......

All good, we all have opinions.

Lets get out of the realm of opinions and deal in facts.

Why should the club listen to this guy? Has he used his "big business" skills to help the club? is he a sponsor? Has he demonstrated professionalism by keeping discussions discrete? Why should the club listen to or deal with this guy?

What no one is recognising is that this guy has just demonstrated why the club did the right thing not dealing with him. By going on a public podcast and airing his version of the clubs "dirty laundry" he has proven himself as exactly the wrong bloke for the club to deal with.

Pascoe and Tigers Mgt may have made some mistakes, but not dealing with this guy is not one of them.

Two bit used car salesman. He'll make a good pollie.

Who …Adrian ?

No, that scruffy looking nerf herder acting as our CEO.

After listening to the podcast , it’s clear Justin is out of his depth .

That’s what became clear to me.. before the doco I was a real fan of Pascoe, thought she was a street wise league man that fought for the Tigers and was professional and knew his stuff. The doco and his actions and the way he handled situations were not only eye opening but truly made me concerned for this club. Presentation and superficial things are normally just that, but something about Justin’s presentation just made me fear 5hat he is dealing with bigger issues, insecurity or a midlife crisis or whatnot.. I don’t really know but compared with Nick Politis or even Ben Ikin it made me feel a little embarrassed for my Wests Tigers club
