Interesting Referee Stats

Late tackle count penalties are the killers and I would love to see a stat on how many of our penalties are late tackle ones compared to other teams. We seem to get plenty on tackle one basically on the line either in attack or defence, but struggle to buy a late tackle call. On the other hand we seem to get pinged all the time on tackle four or five.

Once again this could be just a biased perception from a one eyed supporter who is basically looking at one team…but I don't think so

The people that I watch games with have made similar comments a few times this year and they are Manly supporters.

Seems like almost all the penalties we give away are either on the 4th tackle or when we have them trapped in their own 20m.

I know we push hard for good line speed but nothing like Panthers line speed and apparently they are fine.

When I watch the Tigers play nearly every time the ref penalises us I think “what the hell was that for?” After the TV replay I still think that the penalty was a bit harsh and the other mob are getting away with worse.

Yet when I watch games between two other teams the penalty has to be an absolute howler for me to raise any kind of concern.

I think they call it a passionate bias.

Your post could be the only ray of reason in this entire thread,
We only see what we want to see.
If every fan over a full round was surveyed, after the game, almost all would say very similar things about Refs.
Even the ones who came out on the right side of penalties would think that they were dudded in some way.
Everyone is biased towards their own side .and every loser mostly thinks that the refs cost their team the game or at least that they didn’t get a fair go.
No one wants to believe that one of the main reasons that a team might be getting a harder go than their opponants, may be simply that they are pushing the Refs limits a lot more than the opposing team is.
Refs are human and the easiest target to blame for any losing team.
They’re wrong quite often, but when you take the number of decisions that they make in an NRl game, most of them do pretty well..
Some teams are just plain dumb. And never learn(and we’ve had a few of them)
But no matter how bad we play and we make mistakes, you can always read post after post on how bad the refs are and how we were robbed,
And you can bet that there are seven clubs every week whose supporters are saying the same thing.

Every one is entitled to their opinion - that is yours fine.

BUT, I sure as hell don't know what games you are watching. We are all prepared to cut Referees some slack if they make the odd mistake - they are only human.

However supporters are not talking about the odd error - they are talking about inconsistency..

That is on show every week, in every game and it is not good enough for "The Greatest Game of All."

You can fool yourself if you like - I and many others want more consistency and fairness for both teams playing whoever they are.

I have followed this game for 68 years and this year is by far the worst for refereeing in that time. I have lived through some shocking Referees e.g. Darcy Lawler, Greg Hartley etc. but there were only one or two at a time, not every Referee in every game.

I watched the ISP game Jets v Magpies on the weekend - the referee was much better than what we have in the NRL.

Maybe they should swap all the Referees around - ISP to NRL and vv.

Would NOT be any worse.

Perenara… he always seems to cane us.

Apparently the refs have 'tip sheets' for each game, which I don't agree with. They should go into the games without being encouraged to look for penalties.

There's stats for everything these days and that would include the issues raised here. No doubt Ivan has access to them but that doesn't seem to be helping one way or the other??

The refs are bad this year for sure. I just shake my head at some of the decisions they come up with! The bad reffing appears to be across the board, but there are certainly some ref ‘favourites’ that seem to be able to do no wrong. They can deny it all they like, but it’s true. It’s too bloody obvious not to be true - they are fooling no one.

All that said, we are a very ill-disciplined team and since we are already one of the ‘non-favourite’ teams in the comp we’re only making it worse for ourselves every game.

I must say I am very surprised that an Ivan Cleary coached side is this ill-disciplined, tbh and even more surprised that nothing is being done to rectify it! We will continue to lose some games against better opposition because of it, making it very hard for us to make the 8.

I never said that they arent inconsistent at times, what I was talking about is the fans that are so sure that the Refs are out to get their team.
I also was around At the time when Darcy Lawley and Hartly were Reffing , and there was,not much doubt that they were cheats when they wanted to be,
As well as the biggest cheat in the history of RL, Barry Gomersall, all three of them did not have the close up Inspections of their decisions , that the Refs we have now., they got away with murder,

The Refs are being told to clean up the Ruck and the offside near the line, and it’s not their fault that Coaches are still sending teams out to keep giving penalties. And infringements, this year was always going to be littered by penalties in games,
That , and more sin binnings are going to continue until they fix up the mess that the NRL has made for itself, by letting players , and Coaches, get away with the constant breaching of the games rules.
I couldn’t care less if it takes the whole season for the idiots to get it through their heads that the rules are actually there to make the game what it should be. I just hope that the Refs keep it up and don’t let up until the rules are used again properly ,if we have a crap season , who cares,
The game was getting more and more away from Rugby League. , and it certainly was overdue for someone to call halt to the rubbish that has come into the game
