Dont you just love the hill at any ground but especially Leichardt? Seriously, I love that ground! No parking? standing room only? people get turned away on some sunday afternoons cause its too full? break even numbers?

who cares! watching it there is bloody worth it!

Anyway I saw some interesting things that I wanted to mention and see what you all think about it.

1: I was on the hill - standing at the back north of the scoreboard with about 10 mates that came. 4 of us are Tigers supporters and the rest bulldogs….my group of mates call our teams 'brother clubs' so stop the fighting 24/7 lolol...anyway, didnt last long cause one of my mates, to piss us Tigers supporters off, yells out "Go the Magpies" ..... Immediately, a 'Balmain' chant broke out and nonetheless we gave my mate a little rumble, Was hilarious cause the reaction form the hill was INSTANT......Guys like it or not, there is still a wests/balmain thing in everybodys mind....

2: About 2 minutes from fulltime, this random guy had his shirt off and was on his mates shoulders waving his jersey in the air.....All of a sudden a beer can fly's at him and bang! right on the back of his head...Then another can, and another...about 40 cans or so were thrown at this guy and he stayed up there and copped it on the chin. Nothing malicious, it looked like it was all in good fun, beer going everywhere though....still, u wont see that anywhere else other than a hill at Leichardt! Love it!

3: Leaving the Leichardt....A congo line of about 30 people singing, "Parra doesnt matter!, Parra doesnt matter!" brilliant!

4: A couple holding hands down Mary strret singing eye of the tiger together.

5: As were getting into our cars we noticed a large group of people getting into their cars....There was about 3 Indian men wearing their turbans, some Muslim men and women (I know that because the women were wearing headscarves) and I was sure we saw a priest because he had the white collar thingy (sorry i dont know what thats called)....There was about 10 or so kids with them all....I thought that was terrific to see! We all commented on it and thought it was just fan

6: It didnt rain and even though it was highly likely that it would rain, we still for 18,500 or so people at the game!

7: I was smoking on the hill and some bloke turns around and says "mate you cant smoke here".....I looked at him and said "mate, your on the hill at liechardt, if you're that sensitive maybe you should go to the grandstand next time"......I swear it, his friend turned to me and said" fair point mat...we all had a laugh and that was that....

LOVE LEICHARDT! WHAT A NIGHT!

Yelling "Magpie" on the hill at Leichhardt would be an obvious geeup and people on the hill would know that. I'm glad a chant went up for Balmain, serving it back in good fun is part of the atmosphere on any hill.

Glad to see its still alive in our game.

Agreed, I had a ball as well. Going to the Footy at Leichhardt is like entering a time warp…you don't have to mind your p's hand Q's....it is a ground for football fans and is one of only a handful that remain. Townsville is a good party as is Kogarah and Sharkpark....I do see the need for the big stadiums but the suburban grounds are great for sporadic visits.

So people have to go into the grandstand to avoid ignorant people like you? Not everyone wants to die of cancer at 50\. How about a bit of respect for those around you and smoke somewhere else?

I agree , Laws are Laws!!!! If your asked that you shouldn't be smoking on the Hill , have enough curtosy to apologise and put it out as Families taking there kids don't need to breath that discusting smoke .

The opening post is basically a collection of points why I would never take my kids to watch a game of football from a hill.

Disaster waiting to happen.

Thanks for that black & gold that was awesome! made me jealous I wasn't there in fact every time I watch a game played there on TV i get feelings and memories as if I was there. I have a deep connection to the place like nowhere else, going back to when I was a toddler. My aunty lives a few streets away and just thinking about standing in her front yard on game day watching the crowd make their way down to the ground and people stopping and having a chat, hearing the crowds reaction in the lower grade games and being able to predict whether we were winning or not by the amount of cheers you heard and the tone of the ground announcer from her house makes me happy. Then the walk down to the ground, the characters, just the vibe around those streets the mood of the crowd you can feel it, everyones there for the same reason and it feels special, the nervous anticipation and talk amongst the fans, the hot dog stand, the guys voice selling tickets to doubles in the main game. Then you walk through the gate and a sense of excitement and joy rushes through you. Meeting up with the rest of the family and friends, find your favorite spot get goose bumps when the team song is played through the crappy old pa system that adds even more character to the place, boo the opposition as loud as you can and cheer the tigers even louder.
The walk back to my aunties after a win was always entertaining as ever the streets would come alive again
Its a very special place it's the place I miss the most since I moved to the sunshine coast 12 years ago but the memories will live with me forever.
Let's hope all of us can continue to make even more at the old girl for many years to come.

^ Fair point GB. I live up in Brisbane so usually only attend Suncorp Stadium and on the odd occasion Skilled Park. But I really enjoy the stadium atmosphere, you can generally get good seats and as I go with my family we can easily escape the mentality of the people on the hill. On most occasions I end up talking to the fans next to us about the game, really good experience for my family to go to games and good opportunity to bond.

Lol I was next to that fella that copped the cans in the head. Some parra derro yelled out stop wasting good beer and started picking the cans up n drinking them

Gold..

Can't really see the humour in someone being pelted in the head with full/half full beer cans, tbh, but yeah Leichhardt is a good ground to watch the footy.

Nor could I, so I guess we should support the Roosters as suggested above.

I have humour don't get me wrong ,i'm all for having fun…. but what would of happened if the bloke took it the wrong way and a fight or all in brawl broke out in front of Families then our club would be in the press for the wrong reasons , then What?

As of 7 January 2013, changes to legislation on smoke-free outdoor areas came into effect across NSW.

These changes are a key strategy in reducing community exposure to second-hand smoke, tobacco-related harm and the uptake of smoking.

The smoke-free areas were chosen as they are public outdoor places popular with children and families, or which can be crowded, or at which there is limited opportunity to avoid second-hand smoke.

Smoking is now banned in the following outdoor places:
Within 10 metres of children’s play equipment in outdoor public spaces;
Spectator areas at sports grounds or other recreational areas;
Swimming pool complexes;
Railway platforms, light rail stops, light rail stations, bus stops, taxi ranks and ferry wharves;
Within four metres of a pedestrian access point to a public building.

Bogan
For other uses, see Bogan (disambiguation).
The term bogan is Australian and New Zealand slang, usually pejorative or self-deprecating, for an individual who is recognised to be from an unsophisticated background or someone whose limited education, speech, clothing, attitude and behaviour exemplifies a lack of manners and education.[1] While bogan is widely recognised, localised names exist that describe the same or very similar groups of people.[2]

Yeah exactly, it could end up becoming like the idiot element at soccer matches. Or even worse the guy was hit in a certain part of the head that causes brain injury or an aneurism and dies - yes it can, and has, happened.

Ftr, I spent just about every game on the hills of various grounds, as a kid, and never felt in any danger from the 'men being men' as someone described it (except for one cricket match). Not like today where people are frightened to take their kids there because the men merely act like idiots. It's a shame these selfish tools have to publicly act like they're the only people in the world that matter and spoil it for everyone else.

We shouldn't have to be forced to follow the Roosters, eh Gary.
