Interesting things from the Hill on Friday night

Can't really see the humour in someone being pelted in the head with full/half full beer cans, tbh, but yeah Leichhardt is a good ground to watch the footy.

I have humour don't get me wrong ,i'm all for having fun…. but what would of happened if the bloke took it the wrong way and a fight or all in brawl broke out in front of Families then our club would be in the press for the wrong reasons , then What?

Yeah exactly, it could end up becoming like the idiot element at soccer matches. Or even worse the guy was hit in a certain part of the head that causes brain injury or an aneurism and dies - yes it can, and has, happened.

Ftr, I spent just about every game on the hills of various grounds, as a kid, and never felt in any danger from the 'men being men' as someone described it (except for one cricket match). Not like today where people are frightened to take their kids there because the men merely act like idiots. It's a shame these selfish tools have to publicly act like they're the only people in the world that matter and spoil it for everyone else.

We shouldn't have to be forced to follow the Roosters, eh Gary.

I Took my kids from the age of three plus a group of other kids to the hill at Leichhardt for years and never once had a problem. Their were places you did not go and up around the score board was always a no go area.

As for the smoking thing, I agree, I dont want a person next to me blowing smoke in my face,head to the back of the hill and have a quick puff their

Anyway Iam getting soft in my old age, now the same group of kids who are in their mid twenties sit with me in row one of the grandstand, but the bottom line, their is nowhere better to watch your football than Leichhart oval

I stand near the scoreboard…..its hilarious there...not for kids though.

If i go with family i sit in front of the hill,or on the stand side.

The point being made is that this is an area where we can be boofheads and not have to worry about the sensibilities of soft parents and their annoying children. This is being eroded from everywhere lately with the PC minded softcox having louder voices....

The cricket, v8 motor racing, concerts, even pubs have become family friendly craches...The Bathurst 1000 has been absolutely destroyed as an event....some areas should be left aside for the 'bogans'...that is where the true fun can be had.

So people have to go into the grandstand to avoid ignorant people like you? Not everyone wants to die of cancer at 50\. How about a bit of respect for those around you and smoke somewhere else?

Sorry Stryker, but that's a load of crap. Being considerate of the people around you, whether they be kids, women or other blokes, has nothing to do with PC, it's just bloody human decency.

Where I was on the hill was pretty much muppet free (just back from the concrete walkway wall on ~the 30m line at the Mary St end). There were a number of kids and families, one of whom was a long time Maggies fan and her pre-teen kids who had driven from Mudgee for the game. Bit of swearing, bit of ribbing but nothing too obnoxious and everyone had a lot of fun, especially the kids.

Funniest bit was a couple of Parra fans who were sitting on the walkway wall. When Parra scored their last try these two stood up to cheer and this young kid ~12 just sat down on the wall and knicked their seat. Then wouldn;t move. They kept looking at him trying to work out what was going on but didn;t say anything to him as he studiously ignored them. You probably had to be there but was funny at the time.

Dont you just love the hill at any ground but especially Leichardt? Seriously, I love that ground! No parking? standing room only? people get turned away on some sunday afternoons cause its too full? break even numbers?

who cares! watching it there is bloody worth it!

Anyway I saw some interesting things that I wanted to mention and see what you all think about it.

1: I was on the hill - standing at the back north of the scoreboard with about 10 mates that came. 4 of us are Tigers supporters and the rest bulldogs….my group of mates call our teams 'brother clubs' so stop the fighting 24/7 lolol...anyway, didnt last long cause one of my mates, to piss us Tigers supporters off, yells out "Go the Magpies" ..... Immediately, a 'Balmain' chant broke out and nonetheless we gave my mate a little rumble, Was hilarious cause the reaction form the hill was INSTANT......Guys like it or not, there is still a wests/balmain thing in everybodys mind....

2: About 2 minutes from fulltime, this random guy had his shirt off and was on his mates shoulders waving his jersey in the air.....All of a sudden a beer can fly's at him and bang! right on the back of his head...Then another can, and another...about 40 cans or so were thrown at this guy and he stayed up there and copped it on the chin. Nothing malicious, it looked like it was all in good fun, beer going everywhere though....still, u wont see that anywhere else other than a hill at Leichardt! Love it!

3: Leaving the Leichardt....A congo line of about 30 people singing, "Parra doesnt matter!, Parra doesnt matter!" brilliant!

4: A couple holding hands down Mary strret singing eye of the tiger together.

5: As were getting into our cars we noticed a large group of people getting into their cars....There was about 3 Indian men wearing their turbans, some Muslim men and women (I know that because the women were wearing headscarves) and I was sure we saw a priest because he had the white collar thingy (sorry i dont know what thats called)....There was about 10 or so kids with them all....I thought that was terrific to see! We all commented on it and thought it was just fan

6: It didnt rain and even though it was highly likely that it would rain, we still for 18,500 or so people at the game!

Agreed and this is coming from a father of three boys aged between 14 and 4 who's a non smoker and can't stand grown men acting like tools, but there is a time and place for everything as long as its all in good fun. The hill at the footy is not a place for sensitive do -gooders and the fun police.

My greatest memory of being on the hill at Leichardt was at the Parra game in 04, my mate and i were 15 feet away from the Parramatta Jesus. We were kicking their backsides so he was copping heaps. Some of the best sledges:

''You'll need a miracle now Jesus'' and ''Go home now Jesus and beat the traffic''

I guess the highlight was when he started rolling joints

Look parents aren't stupid and most normal parents can pick a safe environment on the Hill , But you start throwing Full and half cans at someone they will re-act , i know i would .
You can have Banter and the rest but some people take it to a stupid level that will cause fights.

Also… I get a bunch of free tix for most Knights & Jets games through work.
I don't follow or care for soccer so I give them away.
Usually get around 15 general admission tix and 10 grandstand seated tix.
I give away the GA tix and keep the good g'stand tix for me and my boys.

They are non Smoking areas , but some people are to inconsiderate to worry about the rest .
