I guess the point is, round one results are far from a good indicator of the year to come.
I agree with this.
I hope we lap the Sharkies, but early year is their strength, when your game plan is 5 hit ups and a kick, early season rustiness is not an issue, and their style of play takes it toll on players more than more expansive football, Id rather play the sharkies at another time of year. We should still smash them!

Obviously better to win than to lose. However, definitely not life and death. If you had the choice of:
(a) team win but pick up long term injuries to key players
or
(b) team lose by 50 points and sit dead last,
then I would take option (b).

I think the point of this question is the "flying under the radar" element. By winning the first round, many teams take notice of you straight away. Given we are one of the favourites this year, we will be expected to win. We will actually attract more attention if we lose and our credentials for favouritism will be questioned.
Regardless, we should be aiming to win every match held at our suburban home grounds so in this instance, a win in the first round is required.

Its important to win as many games as possible, It buys you some slack down the track, But as most wise heads say the early months are about getting your side up there with as favourable a crack at the important part of the Semi's.
Top 4 is the target.

Best to dispatch the Sharks now while they are still getting there new team together - as I have a feeling if they click they will make a late run for the finals - and not a BS run like they did last year (woohoo!! we won 3 games in a month!!) - I mean an actual run, much like what we did leading into the finals.
Beat them by 14 (my hot tip) and move on to Manly up at Blue-tongue the following Friday, and shellack them.

Winning any game is good, especially if we are injury struck in the middle of the season again. Any and all competition points help.

it would be fantastic not to lose a season, semi or GF game… go through completely undefeated... however im of the opinion that you probably learn alot more from your losses. so dropping a few games along the way aren't going to worry me (depending on how horrible we play ofcourse).
