Is it Worth Discussing the Central Coast Tigers?

Excuse me if this notion is a little naive but is it time that the Tigers investigated a relocation to the Central Coast? When I mention this, I am suggesting it as a vehicle for a new start in every possible way;

  • New board members
  • New administration team
  • New brand
  • New coach
  • New playing roster

I am aware that there are obstacles;

1. NRL prefers other locations for a new franchise, ie. Perth
2. There have been challenges in the past with sponsorship/ financial support on the Coast
3. The Northern Eagles fiasco has left a sour taste in the mouths of the NRL
4. Gaining mutual support from the Wests and Balmain factions could be problematical
5. Wasting of the Centre of Excellence initiative

And, finally, these are what I see as the positives of such a move;

***It provides a means for the current organisation to make a fresh start, reinvent itself and rid itself of the unprofessional/ basket case perception that hinders any chance of it making progress
*** Being a traditional Rugby League neighbourhood and nursery, there is bound to be huge fan support
*** It provides a commutable distance for its diehard Sydney fans
*** The team could have one, high quality home ground
*** It has a large, successful and financially solvent Leagues Club right next door to the ground.
*** Geographically, it plugs the gap between Sydney and Newcastle
***It might solve the issue of bickering between the Wests and Balmain factions

As I mentioned before, the League should be and, probably is, looking closely at the Tigers' plight at the moment (and not favourably I would guess). Would it help the club's cause if they were proactive and stepped up with such a proposal? I really think it's time to start thinking outside the box because the situation seems to be at breaking point.

By the way, I live on the Central Coast but it's not why I'm mooting this!

p.s. Does anyone know how to make the heading bold?

Whether it's the central coast or somewhere else, I think it's the only way things will ever change. Let's face it, no one of any ability is gonna sign with us after the last few years. IP and Api must be regretting the move. Definitely worth considering.

We're not moving anywhere. As bad as the current situation is moving will fix nothing. In fact it will make things worse. Not sure another bag of money as incentive from NRL for something like this would work. When we merged that money went quickly and down the gurgler fast. Supporters of this club have suffered enough and the pill we swallowed to stay alive all those years ago was bitter enough.

Doesn’t matter where we are located , we need to change a few things at club level to fix it up
New look Board , as this one has no football intelligence
New CEO , this one has Made to many mistakes
Coaches , Sheens to go immediately
Coaches , Benji , Robbie , Dave , rest of season to win more than they loose

They just got given Govt money to build a Center of Excellence at Concord after years of whinging for one and now people think they gunna up in move like three months later…?

And what will change ? “ a fresh start “ doesn’t mean anything …

they need better players and coaches .. where they play won’t change that

I think if brand new funding of the major kind and with the support of the Nrl Central Coast Tigers would become a rugby league powerhouse .Stadium in place and local pop of 500k plus would retain many of existing supporters
Central Coast is the largest distinct population area in the Australian Rugby League world still unrepresented in the NRL . Its a major area much bigger than Redcliffe
I'm certain that the NRL want one less Sydney team and two more elsewhere .
Central Coast Tigers is better than Central Coast bears

Didn't I say this in my thread?

A fresh start means a fresh start and that means you replace everything, as listed in my message. Board, administration, coaching, players - EVERYTHING!

What about the COE?

A fresh start wont guarantee any change to the results on its own..

Change the administration, players and coaches by all means but you don t need to move to do that

I think the COE , the CEO and Ashfield are millstones
Basically talking about a brand new footy club with the name Tigers
Wests ,Magpies and Balmain will become names in cup and junior grades like Newtown and Bears whether we like it or not
The other solution is Wests Tigers do a major turnaround and become a regular top 8 winning club ? Would love that to happen but just can't see how at the moment

The biggest problem is our constitution. The board are untouchable and answerable to no-one.

They appoint the chair & the CEO, sign off on all major decisions.

Goes a long way to explaining what is wrong in this cub. Any changes are an indication that someone got it wrong & as a result they will continue to justify crap decisions that have us where we are, and the clubs supporters cannot remove them.

If the club keeps charging for memberships they need to start holding AGMs where members vote on performance of administrators and football department. If votes hit a threshold these people get replaced.

Club would need to present dossiers on the replacement candidates to the supporter group that we then use to inform votes on who replaces who. We should be searching for candidates who have shown administrative excellence in rugby league but also sport more broadly.

If your allegiance is to a faction and you get voted off the board or high level administrative and football department roles you can never serve on or reach these positions ever again and you also lose your vote as a member for life. If you are Wests Tigers aligned employee who sees the joint venture as a single entity you have a mandatory 5 year period where you can't attempt to rejoin any senior administrative, football department or board role.

Playing roster would also be subject to voting if thresholds were broken.

I think the NRL should also look to change our ownership situation. Wests Ashfield has way too much say/input on the club. I understand that all of our money comes through Wests Ashfield but what is that money? Pokies - an additional tax on the poor and mentally ill and the biggest driver of organised crime in Australia - nothing to be proud of. Nothing orchestrated by the club. No business acumen required. Just a state sponsored parasite that clubs cling onto to provide corporate structures for “businessmen” who were unable to secure jobs in financial settings that require anything beyond the remit of general maths.

We should be aiming for private, non faction aligned ownership that only attempts to equally acknowledge the history of both clubs. This ownership should also totally shift our club away from any pokies revenue to the point where we were in a position to sell every single poker machine license we own.

Imagine if being a member helped you determine the direction and outcomes of this club in a meaningful way. We could justify increases to membership prices if members had a say and potentially become member funded without relying on any pokies revenue. That should be our objective.

yes ..the administration needs to share in the blame and its frustrating that they seem untouchable…

But having said that… they have appointed three premiership winning coaches.. Cleary ( he is now a premiership wining coach), Madge and Sheens the last 5-6 years…

All of them have been ordinary coaches at the Tigers who have made poor player recruitment decisions … head scratching decisions … You have to give these coaches a lot of power and trust in respect of player recruitment and they have all been appalling ..

But whoever made the call to bring back Sheens needs to go…how anyone could think that was a good idea given his exit from the club 10 years ago and what he has done since…its hardly surprising that it has turned into a debacle after only 5 games
