Is the Biggest Problem the Halves or the Coaching?

We have backed ourselves into a corner. Some of the roster management under Sheens, some he inherited.

AD, Brooks and Noffa all likely to be retained.

AD has just signed an extension.
Brooks was chosen over Hastings & Madden.
Nofa is under contract for another couple of years.

To save face these guys will likely to continue to get picked, any stint in reserve grade will likely be short term

To answer the OP, both.
The coach has put together a good team. But ultimately, you need halves who can eventually get you the holy grail and win you a comp. Our current halves struggle to win us a game.
In the interim, Wakeham to half (and goal kicker) Brooks to 6, Douehi to centre. Anyone not happy, show them the door.

There was a sequence where we went backwards on tackles 4 and 5 then turned over the ball meekly. I think Brooks got tackled and maybe Api. Joffa then blew up deluxe. I think the coaches looked at the work rate of our backs at that point given the 35 degree temperature, noffa got hooked. He also fumbled a ball in goals and generally avoided any tough stuff. If this club is going to have success we can’t have passengers.
Joffa has turned to shit as well

I'd even go so far as to say that Doueihi lost us that game.

At least he got a try assist, shame it was for a Dog's try.

At best he can have another chance playing in the centres but definitely not at full back, it's either that or he can play KOE with Daine Laurie.

Brooks' needs to sort out his passing game and cut out the hospital passes and put the passes out in front and not behind the supports and he might go okay with Wakeham in the halves.
I said to my dad today that if Doueihi didn't play they would've won. He was absolutely woeful and hasn't done anything in ages. Even missed a conversion a 12 year old should kicked.

Why they moved Staines who was killing it and moved him there is beyond my comprehension. I was really impressed with Staines.

Notice how as soon as he got moved to the wing there was no longer anyone backing up for an offload through the centre? That's the full back's job; Staines did it well, Doueihi was probably wandering around behind play like the crazy cat lady on lsd.

As others I think have said, it surely needs to be:
1. Staines
6. Brooks
7. Wakeham

Laurie and Doueihi - go travel Europe for a few months or something.

only problem with hooking Douihie would have been Sheens was probably thinking he will come good with a run or kick or something. I think Douihie just tried too hard and had one of those games.
He was wrong but I guess next week Douihie to fullback
He was diabolical at FB too, so proves he needed to be hooked.
He wants to play 5/8 in reggies from memory so let him and his loser limp go and learn a position and we'll try again later, as we have also made the stupid mistake of extending him.

for a further 2 years ?

the issue is not the coaching, and if it was you wouldn’t know for another 12 weeks. when a team changes style it takes a very long time to adjust. look at Payten with the Cowboys, Arthur at Parra, even Walters at the Broncos.

furthermore, the intent and attitude the team showed on both sides of the ball in the final 15 and the ability to execute underlines the structures are correct, the players are not.

Wakeham was electric. has to start next Friday. Doueihi marshalled the defensive line from the back with five to go brilliantly. play him there. Brooks was lost at sea until he played up on the ad line and through the middle. there’s the template. play Matamua at 13 next week and that ensures there’s no longer a disconnect between Api and the halves.

i’ve said it multiple times across all three weeks, we’re not as far off as people think. we just need to put it together long enough to come away with two points. I don’t believe it’s far away. genuinely. stick strong.

Brooks after 150 games is still not an NRL standard halfback. I hope for his sake he moves on but I fear his one line break and try assist against Bulldogs will give him another 3 years as our highest paid player.

Brooks is being paid half back money and they are trying to manufacture AD to be a half.
Piss off Brooks and let AD be a five eighth .

Wakeham may not be the answer but at least is kid a halfback.
You need to watch the games again brooks was bad but Doueihi was much, much worse! What about the hospital pass to Bateman? What’s worse is he didn’t even acknowledge how bad it was, Doueihi needs a reality check!

The team can steadily improve, thats on the coach.

The halves Doueihi and Brooks can not and will not suddenly become better players.

Therefor the answer is the halves!

I'm absolutely convinced it's the halves now. People should not be swayed by a a couple of positive touches by Brooks in garbage time last week. Quite simply he must go. He was lamentable tonight. The trouble is, who do you pick as next week's pairing? Wakeham and Doueihi? Wakeham and Laurie? What do you do with Doueihi? I would go with the following in the spine;
1. Staines
6. Laurie
7. Wakeham
9. Koroisau
14. Doueihi
