It's almost been a whole season ( note sarcasam) since brown was disgraced, considered a menace to society, threatened woman and physically assaulted men. But hey Super coach Wayne Bennett screams. "He is a slightly better footballer than some of the others coming through. I can't have morals, I have an NRL competition to win and if the NRL are going to make us even remotely stick to the salary cap I need to find any deadbeat, aggressive mofo I can strong arm into whatever pathetic deal I offer up into my team to do so….."

Ok ok ok. That might be my summanation that probably would get me sued if this wasn't an anonymous forum, but the real article is below, so I'll ad copyright infringement to that lawsuit to... I'd give credit to the writers but the fine journos at fox sports didn't want to attach their name to the article...

Wayne Bennett’s meeting with disgraced ex-Wests Tigers player Matt Lodge — Media Watch

IS Wayne Bennett trying to lure a disgraced former NRL player back to the game?

Plus an out-of-luck Warriors talent breaks his silence on a club snubbing.

BAD BOY IN BENNETT’S SIGHTS

Brisbane prop Jarrod Wallace might be joining the Gold Coast next season, but could we see disgraced former Wests Tigers player Matthew Lodge replace him?

The Courier Mail reports Lodge has met with Broncos coach Wayne Bennett to talk about a possible return to the NRL.

Lodge had his contract ripped up after he was arrested following a rampage through New York last October.

“I’ve met with Matt, yes, but that’s as far as it’s gone at the moment,” Bennett said.

“He has a few hurdles to overcome. He has to satisfy the NRL of his rehabilitation.

“Until Matt does all the things he is supposed to do and the game allows him to come back, then there’s not much we can do. It’s about him being cleared by the NRL to be available.

“I was interested in Russell Packer in two years ago.”

He stalked 2 young ladies, broke in to another apartment, where they sought refuge. Viciously assaulted the owner of that apartment, broke into the bathroom where the victims Wife and young son were hiding from him. The boy still has nightmares about the ordeal. I think he forfeits the right to the privilege of playing NRL.

The guys a disgrace and should have a lifetime ban sanctioned upon him.The NRL is setting a bad example if they let him back. It's not exactly his first offence.

If he has sworn off the grog etc and acts accordingly then why not

I'm all for rehabilitation but jeez, he hasn't even missed a season yet. How about he at least has some time to actually rehabilitate and not just some token gesture that will have zero impact on his life.

Can not see the NRL opening the door in the next decade for Lodge, but Bennett might be able to play the good Samaritan card and get him through the back door. Although I just can not see it, what he did and has done in the past is way above Packer,Wicks or who ever

I will take that back - he is damn lucky to be out and free but demon grog and society's embrace of it is the culprit

We can't keep blaming society for this sort of stuff - all of us are society.

You know what , I hope if Brisbane do sign Lodge that the other 15 clubs make a pact to destroy him , exactly what Lodge set out to do that night in the US

Rough justice served exactly how it should be

Agree. He should never be considered to play NRL again.

Not to mention what he had already done back in Australia.

The guy should be locked up. I feel for his parents who are both in the police.

How will this help him learn what he did was reprehensible?
All Bennett is doing is saying to him no matter what you do… Break the law terrorise people... If you can break the line for me... Hey, that's all ok

According to an article in the Australian, Lodge is still subject to a civil suit in the USA. This isn't over yet, I think.

He should not be allowed to have anything to do with football for at least 7 years.the time he should have spent locked up

I agree, time for NRL to show a tough stance.
**Minimum 10 -15 years out of the game** :bulb: :bulb:
Sadly I don't think they will. :unamused:

He shouldn't be allowed to play for a minimum of 5 yrs, if not life. The only reason he isn't rotting in a US prison is because his parents had to sacrifice everything they own basically, forcing them into bankruptcy.
