It's time to take the fight back to HBG

Playing the devil's advocate here but..

Why should RL be their main project?
It's their money and they can choose to spend it on Leichardt, Central Coast, campbelltown wherever and whichever community sport they want. It doesn't have to be Wests Tigers
i may be completely wrong though i think that its in their constitution / charter that they fund the rugby league team and surrounding disctricts rugby leagues teams. If so then rugby league is their sole purpose for existing as a not for profit club. Theyre sole reason is as a not for profit to generate revenue to then be pumped right back into the community in Rugby League. Im more than happy to be corrected though.

Yeah, i don't think we should link this to being as a magpies thing. Balmain are equally to blame.

Take your pick - skills, ego, governance, aptitude, structural, experience .... But calling it a Wests problem will completely mischaracterise it.
The Magpies footy team have long also been a victim of this BS long before the JV

I started the post with that there are Wests elements within HBG, of course there is. I wasn't suggesting otherwise as HBG is merely the repackaged body of Wests Ashfield and a couple of small former Balmain venues.

The infighting at the top smacks to me of plain old politicking where people just want to hang on to power and preserve the system that gets them there. Andreacchio was a director of WSDRLFC so he is a Wests man as well, and he got knifed by other Wests aligned interests. A bit of "Wests on Wests" violence if you will.

This is what I mean to say when I say it's not a Balmain v Wests or WT v Wests thing. It appears to me that there's a power consolidation within HBG and certain interests are trying to maintain that system that allows them to get there and stay there. This is an issue within HBG and WT being affected is incidental as they are owned by HBG.

Re-reading my post I've misworded WA being "previously" Wests aligned, they obviously still are aligned with/towards the interests of WSDRLFC, but it is no longer their sole focus as they also have WT as a going concern.
Its been going on for over 5 decades

The Leagues Club and Football Club should be 'one'. They soley operate to help and suppport each other.

In other words the Leagues club exists becuase of the Football club, not the other way around.

I wonder if this has always been the case with the Magpies and their leagues club, could have this been a big reason why they were so crap for so long? Or has been only since the Wests Tigers existed?

The Bulldogs example just shows how strong the football club is compared to the Leagues club. The football club can allocate 4 of the 7 positions on the Leagues Club board, this is so far removed for the Wests Tigers.

From AI
  • Football Club Appointees: The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Football Club has the perpetual right to directly appoint four (4) of the seven (7) directors on the Canterbury Leagues Club board.
  • Leagues Club Member Voting: The remaining three (3) positions on the Canterbury Leagues Club board are voted on by eligible members of the Leagues Club itself.
You wondered correctly

These guys are much be more stupider then I first realised, I thought it would of just been since the Wests Tigers was formed.

'Hello boys, it has never worked, might be time to try something else"

They must really, really like losing.

Its very hard to believe actually.

I wonder what someone like Roy Masters would have to say about this?

And I wonder what Balmain thought of it at the time of the merger, what were they thinking?

And surely the league at the time must of thought it was a crap way to run a football club?

Basically the majority of members are social members. After 3 years you can apply to become a general member, this gives you full voting rights and needs to be approved by the board.
Are you saying that even after 3 years as a social member, there is every chance I am rejected as a general member?

Yep Roy Masters tells the story that when Victa came on board as a sponsor the leagues club ripped out the same amount from their funding.

Ashfield Leagues was strongly against the move to Lidcombe oval. The move came about because Ashfield council would not allow games to be played On a Sunday at Prattern Park.

The NSWRL were starting to push for Sunday games hence the move.

This sort of stuff, although incredible, not surprising, considering whats going on now.

I wonder if Magpies supporters tried to change things?

What about the move to Cambo, were they supportive of that?

I feel it was well embraced because us fans knew it made sense. Huge growth area. It took a couple of years but we finally produced on the field from 90-97. Especially in the ealier 90s. The world was our oyster. We were getting great crowds and Campbelltown embraced the side. To this day I still wonder what went wrong.

I was very ignorant of the administrative side of things in the 70s and 80...was only a kid...but as ive mentioned before the local magpies fans (my old mans mates, basically all of ashie pub locals) hated the club and what it stood for...most only joined as it was the only place to get a beer on sundays.
The old man really didnt go into detail as he knew i wasnt that interested but it confused me how he could.love the team so much but hate the club

I know people give a lot of smack to the Campbelltown area for its lack of support for the club, but deadset we have a gold mine there for junior players. I don't see why we can't have a strong pipeline of good, young, local players coming in and being ready for first grade by the time they're 20-21.

The thing is though, you have to invest time and money into it before it can give you players back. If the numbers I saw posted are to be believed, then our spending on pathways is woeful compared to other clubs. How can we compete when other clubs can basically have small focus groups where their elite talents are fast-tracked on knowledge for being a top athlete?

And we need more of a physical presence in the place. Our players and colours need to be seen regularly in the community. What we need to do is send Alex Seyfarth to the top university in the world to learn advanced quantam physics. Then he needs to invent a particle teleporter machine so our players can train at Campbelltown, then return back to Concord in an instant. This means of travel would also allow players to live in Campbelltown and quickly get to Concord. I know such a technology doesn't exist yet, but I have faith in our great man to become the hero of the future.

I think it's great that we will have a season coming up with lots of games at Campbelltown. We have to take this opportunity to get a stronger foothold into the region.
