Ivan Cleary Axed

Panthers Executive General Manager Phil Gould AM today met with coach Ivan Cleary and informed him the club has terminated the final year of his contract, effective immediately.

"Ivan Cleary has done a tremendous job in his four years at the Panthers," Mr Gould said.

"He has laid the foundation for the future and we are enormously grateful for his contribution to the club.

"We wish Ivan, his wife Rebecca and his family all the very best for the future."

Gees, Gould is sweeping the broom through the place. I'd think the S+C guys would be the first to go given their injuries last year.

Where's Cleary off too? Has done pretty well at both Warriors and Panthers now. Time for him to step up to a top 4 club me thinks.

There has to be more to this. He's the most underrated coach in the comp who got his side all the way to the pre lim final last yr with a team decimated. And they were decimated this yr too. I find it hard to believe he was sacked due to poor performance.

Surprised they want Griffin to replace him. They said they wanted someone with more experience, but he's pretty untested as an NRL coach compared to Cleary, imo.

Didn't hear/read any rumours about Cleary being on shaky ground, a shot out of the blue for a bloke coaching a team hit badly by injury. Maybe the great gus goulding doesn't accept excuses…....

I'd say Cleary had already agreed to terms somewhere after his contract was up with Penriff and Gould has basically decided to move on now.

I heard rumblings that Soward was on the nose too.

I'm not sure , but I've heard they have schools in France and England as well

Only problem is you learn to speak in shorthand at one
