Don't see where it was said no one cares or cant post their heart felt opinions
Its funny because people basing their opinions on what is reported in the media were ready to string him up and run Cleary out of dodge….then when facts are presented from the club it's a total backflip....
But hey it was on TV..and in the paper
People are responding emotionally to every ‘next bit’ of information. Me too. That’s to be expected.
Initially I think everyone was shocked that someone we respected could act totally against what he seemed to value. This turned to anger when it seemed to be true. Now it’s just pure confusion because of all the lies and spin. We don’t know what to believe.
And I think that’s fair enough at the moment
Facts people, facts…not too many people are considering the facts. I'm an investigator so it's my bread and butter - making assumptions does not come into it - it's inherently dangerous. So let's look at the facts:
Phil Gould sacks Anthony Griffin - both have had their say in the media as to why but what we do know is - they don't get along;
Cleary is friends with a guy that works at Penrith (David O'Neill) - they catch up regularly;
O'Neill floats the idea of Ivan coming back to Penrith to coach (exactly how and when we don't know);
Ivan tells Pascoe that Penrith have made an approach to him;
Pascoe informs Ivan that IF he asks for a release, it will be denied;
Pascoe informs the Wests Tigers board including Marina Go;
Gould says Penrith have a "preferred coach" in mind but to date have 13 people interested in the job;
Gould has attempted to call Go, she has not returned his call;
Pascoe and Go both issue statements to the media and public advising that Ivan has not asked for a release, and if he does it will be denied and the Tigers will dig in (from a legal and compensation perspective) and say they won't be pushed around by other clubs;
Gould issues a statement saying he does not expect to see Ivan at Penrith next year; and
Ivan still has not sought a release.
They are the basic facts of the matter. Throw the media into it and this is where the water begins to turn muddy. The media speculates - in the rugby league world they do it all the time. They report things which simply are not true and some people are naïve enough to swallow it. For example, they said Ivan told the players he may not be there next year as he has a tough family decision to make - Marina Go confirmed this was falsely reported - but that news piece in itself sends people into hysteria and jumping to conclusions.
There is no conclusion just yet, but the facts point towards Cleary staying. If he does go, well those details are either yet to be worked out, or yet to be made public.
I wouldn't take anything Gus says as a fact…. More likely a lie
