Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

He wants to leave, obviously.

Would we really be fighting tooth and nail to keep someone that wants to stay? You don't fight cooperative people lol.

I think Penrith taking on McQueen's contract and us getting 2 players paid by Penrith would be fair compensation.

Ivan was probably testing the waters he now knows the Wests Tigers feelings. Why would he go back to a club that treated him so badly at Wests Tigers he is top dog at Penriff he would be Goulds [This word has been automatically removed] show some courage Ivan youre better than that

If this plays out as it seems to be, i’m done….my 8th year as a WT member will be my last...also, the NRL can go get ******....I’ll follow another sport....i’m over the way the game is run....it’s worse than a business...people like Gould, Bellamy and Bennett who are revered by the NRL have totally stuffed this game up the last 10 years....

My first thoughts have been similar to you. For a while I have been disillusioned with the NRL but love my Tigers. In particular I loved the redemption story starting to unfold under Ivan. My first thoughts were that Im done, zero interest in the Tigers or RL after this.

I have been somewhat bolstered by the way Pascoe has handled things so far. I am under no illusions, I cant see a way that Ivan stays but Im hopeful that Pascoe can salvage the best possible outcome out of this fiasco. if the club appoint a good replacement and continue a positive direction, i'm sure Ill get back aboard but its hard right now.

One thing is for sure. I am a member and I will not attend one more game whilst Ivan is coach. I couldnt bear to hear his name read out as coach.

I would say you would be the norm Glenn. Most normal people will simply lose interest and move on to other things. As a fan base we have been through enough.

Wow…..we are buggered.

First of all, well done Justin Pascoe, stick to your guns.

Ivan is gone.

Im sure Pascoe is telling the truth saying that Ivan has not asked (formally) for a release but the mere fact that he said that the two of the had an "open and frank" conversation and that Pascoe on behalf of the board had to come back the next day to tell him he would not be granted a release, and that we will "fight tooth and nail all the way" clearly means Cleary told him he wants to go.

How the hell can Cleary front Matulino, Mbye, Thompson, Kev (told to leave), Packer, Reynolds in the face at training?

Tough times ahead.

Summed up very accurately in my view…if Ivan wanted to stay he would’ve come out on the front foot and said so...instead he has remained silent only feeding the speculation he wants out....

Pascoe knows in his heart there is no point keeping Cleary to his contract if his heart is not with the WT..so what is happening now with these public statements is jockeying for a legal position....WT will get all the coin they can out of this...

I'm with you

My assumption is that Ivan Cleary & Justin Pascoe have a strong friendship so if the Judas act is to happen Cleary & Pascoe (& probably Gould lol) somehow will have to formulate a plan of action that will appease Tigers fans & the Tigers Board.
Tigers major sponsor Brydens Lawyers may soon have a new client.

Gould on the news was quick to state it wasn't him that had the discussion with Ivan Cleary. Perhaps Go and Pascoe have got their message across.

I've gone from saying I'd give it away if Clearly was let go to saying I'd be even more behind my club if they pushed for compensation before giving him a release.

I'd even drop him to reggies to coach until Penrith come to the party.

Show the rest of the league we're not pushovers as a club or a fan base.

Time to be ruthless….

Morally the NRL should step in, therefore they will not. Todd might provide lip service and talk tough for a day or two before the NRL stick their head back in the sand. Can't see this ending well, but hopefully Pascoe stands his ground on principle so future seasons do not continue to get "Goulded" over by the next Moses, Woods, Tedesco, Cleary, etc.

Screw Cleary and screw the Panthers. I hope Pascoe digs in here and stands up for the club. I want Cleary gone now but I want some serious compensation. And then I’m going to death ride Penrith for the rest of my days.

Gus probably wasn’t expecting a fight. Probably assumed like most contracts if Ivan asks for a release, our club will give it to him because “what’s the point of holding someone to a contract who doesn’t wanna be there”. Good for us standing up for ourselves, even if it’s only for legal positioning.

X 2 … the game is stonkered well and truly.
Crowds numbers spiraling downwards.
The game itself is losing credibility rapidly and is run by the few with pure self interest being the only thing that matters.
Let's face it ... weststigers are just a feeder club of junior development talent for clubs like the roorters and storm.
The NRL really only need to have a 6 team competition. 3 Sydney teams, 2 QLD teams and the Storm, the rest really don't matter.
As for gus Gould, pfft. Could not lie straight in bed.

Irrespective of what Pascoe says, the wick has been lit.

There is no way I can see IC remaining here until the end of his contract.

He is a fraud and unbelievably selfish. His top priority is not the club he is coaching at or the players busting their arse for him. His number one priority is his son. So much so that he is willing to rubbish his reputation, break a contact, return to an organisation that sacked him and be micro managed by sociopath just to coach his precious son….

Absolutely!

Dear mods,

I love the standards on this forum - thank you.

But can we have a 2 hour window where anything goes?? I think it’s needed😜

Josh Reynolds revealed tonight on NRL360 that the players had the day off today.
Now, if Ivan waited for the joint to be empty before disclosing to Pasco the meeting with the Panthers weeks ago and subsequent offer from the panthers since then he is as gutless as it gets.

He told Pascoe on Monday, not today

Gould has tried to paint us in a corner with his earlier comment about not stopping Nathan joining Ivan. The plan was if we don’t let it happen we are the bad guys however that was a gamble on their part and the rugby league public and players will lose respect for Ivan and Penrith as a club.

If Ivan does end up at Penrith and doesn’t win a premiership in the next couple of years everyone ends up in a bad place.

I’m hoping there is more going on and Ivan will stay but I can’t see it happening. He has indicated he’d like to join Nathan at Penrith and the club can say what they like but there is no point having a coach who doesn’t want to be here. Hold out and take a few of there forwards as compensation.

Compensation payout + DWZ & CHN.
Justin is setting this up perfectly. Justin PasCEO verse Snake Gould!
