Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

Irrespective of what Pascoe says, the wick had been lit.

There is no way I can see IC remaining here until the end of his contract.

He is a fraud and unbelievably selfish. His top priority is not the club he is coaching at or the players busting their arse for him. His number one priority is his son. So much so that he is willing to rubbish his reputation, break a contact, return to an organisation that sacked him and be micro managed by sociopath just to coach his precious son….

Yes this!

Agree with this too. If true, he’s essentially throwing away everything he’s worked towards at the Tigers, just to coach his son. It’s kind of ridiculous when you put it like that.. Tbh I don’t think it’s the best idea to coach your own son/family member at that level, for many reasons. Has the potential to seriously backfire.. If that’s any consolation to us if he actually goes through with it.

100% The criticism and accusation of nepotism will no doubt bite him each time they have a poor performance.

He's tying his own noose with this move.

Cleary family don’t want to move to Perth. Let’s face it no Home ground, no Centre of Excellence, no real directin or roster.

He knows something we don’t. I can’t blame him. Where is he and his son more likely to hold up a Premiership Trophy? His probably got every term in his new contract that he wants.

I hate it and don’t agree with it but really if you were him?No brainer.

Would love old Harry to pop his head up and take on the Cleary contract. Pay him and honour it but do not release him. Meanwhile sign another coach for next season

Stuff asking Harry! Ashfield runs non for profit all proceeds into football. My name says my old ties, but Ashfield worked so hard for their power, by hell or high water they better flex their financial might to keep the ship on course, or we are no better than the old tug-o-war days.

Blow the coaching staff cap and pay the tariffs! There will never be a bigger moment to show we are ready to tango with the heavyweights! This spotlight we didnt ask for, but we can leverage for an emphatic rebirth.

Reading between the lines on Pascoe's comments Ivan asked for a release yesterday. Great that we are saying No, but how are players going to show commitment to a coach that wanted to walk out on them.

After reading Pascoes comments and how much emphasis he put on fighting and retaining Ivan, I'm thinking that this thing maybe more than just headlines. I'm starting to think that it could get ugly and potentially some precedence set in respect to approaching coaches.

Or maybe Greenberg and the NRL will just continue to ignore the actions of some of the bigger clubs.

Yep. Looks like a statement that intended to go one way but is very transparent.
Ivan doesn't want to be here next year and in the end I think he will be at the Pennies in 2019.

Ivan is probably thinking we are a basket case and his son will not fulfill his potential here. He is better of at Penrith and he will be the fall guy . Sad but he just wants what is best for his son

Well here we go again.

Kudos to Pascoe for coming out so quickly and strongly stating our position. At least gives us fans some pride to hold on to.

i think we say no to a release, so penrith have to get another coach, and as soon as they appoint a new coach we sack ivan, thats the way to fix a traitor. then he misses out on his precious son all round. sorry but really angry, with whats happening just when things start to look a bit better we get knocked down again.

The moment Cleary became available Gus would sign him and sack the new coach. Gus doesn’t care.

I had thought of the club doing exactly what BP said, but on the other hand, yep - Gus would totally do that. And the media would go on about it like it was some sort of fairytale.

So his son can stay at Penrith and he can stay and honour his contract, just like he espoused already.

No problem with that, this is just normal operating procedure for a good club. hopefully your mates can cough it up.

I do feel sorry for the players however they are there to do the job as best they can - i would hope that they still put in 100%. Wests Tigers pay their salaries not Ivan Cleary.

What a disgusting situation this scumbag has put has in. The worst possible outcome would have been having his son here, I hope that never happens. Stuff them and their dream, we backed him after Gould humiliated him, and people like me have supported some of his dodgy recruitment and selection calls only to get this.

Best case scenario for the integrity of the game is for us to keep him until Penrith invest in another coach and sack the grub the next day if he is chucking a Moses.

Next best thing, and probably better for us, is to take them to the cleaners in terms of players and cash. Just feeds back into the NRL being a grubby sport though, so I prefer we drag this out and humiliate the Clearys and Gould.

The poor players, probably the most mentally resilient bunch of good blokes who play for each other we've had since Sheens and they have to cop this. I thought Cleary sounded a bit strange saying this group might not be the group we need for success (after he assembled them), now I hope he chokes on a cooked bone like the Dog he appears to be.

Harry T has never been that big of a supporter. He takes a passing interest in Wests Tigers but that's about it. If he was as fanatical as some think he would have thrown a lot more money at us. Truth is he is a smart business person and knows better than to put his money in a Rugby League club.

I'm peed off like everyone else about this but want to put another spin on things.

Maybe just maybe Ivan went to Justin on Monday and said hey guess who want me to come back and coach them. And Justin's response was pigs **** you're not going anywhere!
Ivan hasn't asked for a release but has just advised them that he has been approached so the Tigers have come out guns blazing to make a statement and warn off Gus and his cronies….

Just a though

Yeah if he was just doing what was best for his son he could just let him stay at Penrith.

Sounds like he's already asked for a release and has been denied.

And all leading up to our semi-annual Raiders flogging. I dare say we'll get 60 put on us.
