Ivan Cleary - THREAD..

It was nice seeing Ivan Cleary on the sideline anxiously hoping his side would win. He certainly didn’t seem like the sort of person who wants OUT of the club.

Yeah, he looked like he was having the time of his life…...

Barrett looked invested in his team as well. Just saying.

The way Penrith are going they will need a coach ASAP. Either a big package for Cleary or they will have to look elsewhere as no one will sign for 2 years awaiting Cleary to replace them. WT may have killed it off you never know. Interesting times. They’d be mad to to get Madge.

Theyll end up with Cleary or Barrett for next year. Gould will see to it

I don't think that the Panthers will win another game. If that's the case, Gould will have trouble keeping his own job.

Take all this for what it's worth, but out Penrith way they still are very confident Ivan will be their coach next year. I spoke to a Panthers member who sits near folk he reckons are in the know and that's what they think is happening. And he also said Nathan just bought a house in the Penrith area, again for what that's worth. Last bit, again for what it's worth, Ivan at a WestCare charity function on 16/8 where Dave O'Neill was in attendance

No fire for sure but lots of smoke

No sightings of Gus though on the grassy knoll

Been Saying this for weeks now that he is Gone… Ever sense the press conference and he would NOT take questions I thought this. I would only hope the club is looking at a top coach and not leaving it until its too late. I don't want him if he doesn't want to be here. I would also assume we would get compensation from Panthers as well..

The fact we have not been mentioned in signing players aswell says they are waiting for new coach to make some decisions. I Hope I am Wrong though.

I think you are.

He has said he will honour the contract he has for the next two years. How does that mean he is gone?

How does that mean he doesn't want to be here?

POM has already stated we have (and I have heard it from another source close to the club) that we/will - have signed three good players for next year (obviously they are still under contract / in the finals so cannot be disclosed at this point.

Instead of everyone trying to second guess what has/will happen - maybe we should all relax and wait until the club make the announcement of which players we have, coach has already been decided.

Russell I think its just the passion that is spilling out of me unfortunately. I have had enough of been down the bottom and just want to have success - Like most of us I would assume.

Time will tell but we need some good news soon 😛ray:

You are right Russell we need to wait until probably after the grand final, but Cleary has not filled me with confidence regarding his future here, but I will just wait and see.

The whole situation is still up in the air. A man who has built his reputation on honour and integrity, wants to be at the Panthers to A) coach his son and B) take up the massive financial offer they have waiting for him while still having 2 years remaining on his contract.

The Wests Tigers who have stated publicly Ivan will not be released from his contract and nor has he requested a release(officially)

Nathan Cleary, who only yesterday/today stated it would be perfect to have IC at the Panthers as his coach and recently bought a house in the area, even though Mum and Dad still own a very nice one at Leonay ( which funnily enough they have still not sold to Dave O'neil at this time.)

And then Gus and the Penrith board who still can't get their stories straight i.e Gus saying getting rid of Hook had nothing to do with trying to sign Ivan to keep Nathan while a certain high ranking Penrith official told everyone in earshot he went after Ivan because he was sick of hearing Nathan might go to Wests Tigers. You couldn't make this crap up.

Anyway after all this…..the cold hard reality is this. Unless Ivan asks for a release officially and is granted one, then there is no possible way he will be coaching Penrith next year. The ball is firmly in Wests Tigers court, what our club decides to do with it if and when the release is sought will dictate where Ivan is next year.

Obviously anything could happen in the NRL and whatever does happen will be news for 5 minutes until some other "scandal" comes along. So in my view, whatever has been said or done to date means nothing at all.
Everyone is just speculating and giving their own thoughts on what they feel might happen - it is a forum for opinions after all. In that light, my gut feeling for the future is as follows:
…..NC will re-sign for Panthers.
.....Gould will be seen as being the big hero and get pumped up and patted on the back by media (especially CH9), but it will be his last triumph as he will agree to step back from his Panthers role.
.....This will open the door for Ivan to return to Panthers and he will not last out his contract at WT's.
.....There will be no big drama over his move as everyone is half expecting it and will see it as the best outcome. The "shock horror" has already been planted and absorbed in the mind's of us all when the idea came to light earlier.

P.S. I really hope I am wrong because I have been so invested and "On the bus".

Hi Russ - just interjecting here but that's not what The POM said, he said

"Don’t expect anything till the season ends. Majority of targets are still contracted. Things will make sense once announced & if we can get these 2-3 good names over the line."

If we can get them over the line. I haven't seen anything since where he said it's a done deal?

If tigers stand firm and not release Ivan I can't see panthers settling for an interim coach for 2 years.
Also knowing when Ivan is off contract any decent coach would be a fool to sign for the same amount of time.

Thanks… Quite a difference

If Ivan goes at the end of his contact so be it the club does not own him and if the b/s of the last few weeks did not happen there is no guarantee that he would sign a new contract anyway
