IYO: UNDERRATED & OVERATED

Topic probably has been done before but need some discussion….
In your opinion (IYO for those who need to ask) who are some underrated and overrated players in the NRL?

For me....
With the tigers, I always thought **Tim Simona** was massively under rated and always impressed when given the chance. Now he's had a solid oppurtunity he's guaranteed himself a start I believe. Pretty much the same with **Geoff Daniela** when he was with us.

Didn't think **Benji** was over-rated just either past it or lost his love for the game, won't be a loss for us with Luke Brooks stepping up.

As for other clubs, in my neck of the woods.....

**Marvin Filipo** former Knights - he is good but never really got a proper shot. The locals claim he is "too small for the second row and too slow for the centres". If you see him in person, he's not really small at all. He kills it in the NSWCUP, just never understood why he didn't get much of a chance. Feel like he's been in the game for ever and only played like 6 first grade games?

Also, the coach and the community have some ridiculous love for **Aku & McManus**, who are in my opinion, average at best wingers. **Kev Naiquama** is better and more talented than both and deserved a star over the both of em. Newy deserved to lose him, he'll be tearing it up for Penrith.

Kurt Gidley = rubbish player.

simona probably wasn't MASSIVELY underrated, but he was moderately underrated.

many on here knew he was a pretty decent player, and many wanted him to be promoted. the problem there was they wanted him promoted in round 2 or 3 and we saw the effects of chopping and changing the team every week first hand. not saying that simona should or shouldn't have been put in the team, just that there should be some level of caution in that regard especially early on.

tl;dr: simona was always good, but he definitely took on the challenge of FG extremely well and wish he was at nines.

Caps Lock is overrated, so is Brent Kite. I've never seen what others have seen in him.

I agree that Simona isn't rated as well by the wider league public. Most people I know follow other clubs and they don't think much of him.

i always thought of brent kite as the petro of nsw tbh… always in that 7-8 out of 10 ratings

i reckon greg bird is underrated in the sense that he is by far the best backrower in the game imo.

carney has to be a tad overrated as well.. he plays 2 good games a year against weak opposition and gets hailed as a master.

Don't get me wrong I think he is a good solid player, not the superstar he is made out to be!

Boyd shits me to tears…. Almost every qld and aus try, is just an overlap, no brilliance, Luke covell could have been just as effective in those games.

They have all been players underated at their previous clubs, who has something to offer.

Except Richards… Everyone knows he's a legend.

Underrated: Taumalolo. Has huge potential! Not sure if it's his attitude or average defence, but never gets game time and is a wrecking ball at hitting the line.
Ben Ride from the Titans is a solid back rower aswell. Should be a shoe in in that 17 but has to work for his spot.

Overrated: Slater and Smith. They are both very quality players, but in a good team only. Cronkite is only one from the big 3 for me that could bring a lot of value to an average team. The other two would be average in an average team as they don't have the X factor to create stuff themselves or from nothing, they need the quality around them to do it. Unlike Farah or example, who can carry an average team with his all round ability or create an opportunity where one wasn't.

Overrated - Kenny-Dowell, Darius Boyd.

Really? Slater has no X factor? He may be winding down but he has been in the top few fullbacks to ever play the game for mine. Smith is the best no.9 that has ever pulled on a jumper. When Cameron doesnt play…be it for the Storm, Queensland or Australia, the team looks confused and struggles to gain any rhythm. Dont get me wrong, I love Robbie as much as anyone but Smith consistently gets his team rolling forward and ensures the ruck is tight.

Bunny Dill is overrated. He bends down to tie his bootlaces and the commentators wax lyrical about the perfect way he forms his loops. He drops a ball or misses a tackle and they cry how he is exhausted from trying so hard...LOL.
