Melbourne might have to realise they won’t find a good replacement for JAC in the NRL at the moment. Not really any top quality winters available for them to sign.

Melbourne doesn’t have to realise anything. JAC is contracted to Melbourne for 2021, they can do nothing and he plays there next year.

I know they could easily just refuse to let him go, that’s why we shouldn’t play hardball too much with them. They just can’t expect some top quality winger in return because it seems very unlikely

They can play hardball until 2022.

They’ve got the upper hand. Even if JAC chucks a sook they’re a strong enough club to just not release him and he’s not even on big dollars at the moment

I don't think they have the upper hand at all. They have a player who wants out with 1 year left. No club is going to be silly enough to swap an up and coming player long term, for 1 extra year of JAC.

They won't go into 2021 with a disgruntled player.

If it was a weaker club I’d agree but i reckon they’d be quite happy to hold onto him as long as they can until they get some decent deal.

Souffs have the upper hand with them now bauking at that young gun

He’s already signed for next season with them he’s asking for a ridiculous extension though

After their AJ took a $200k cut to his new contract? That will popular in the dressing sheds not to mention room for only one one.

The problem is we can’t compete with the other clubs.

They mentioned his favored club. That means the club he wants to go too. If the rumors are correct we also got Tamou for less than Saints offered him because we are a preferred club.

You don't build a quality squad by jumping at shadows.

If Souths and roosters can offer him the same money we are he could easily change his mind

Of course but what is the relevance of this comment. This can happen with every single signing the club makes. Should we go and recruit a winger for the Storm on the same dollars and with the same ability as JAC ? Why would we do that ? What player would agree to that ?

The relevance of this comment is that people on here are happy to either wait a year to sign JAC or refuse to give them ANY player. If we do either of those there’s a good chance roosters or Souths can make him an offer and our best chance of signing JAC goes down the drain.

No problems. The club has to have some boundaries in relation to how they operate.

Where would JAC play if he went to Souths? They've got Latrell, Gagai and Johnston as their back three. He'd get a spot on the wing obviously, but I don't think they'd want more money soaked up on the wing.

And if thats the case he didn't really want to come here at all nor did he really want to explore the possibility of playing FB. I think we should tell him that we are not trading anyone and that the offer to him will remain on the table until November when he becomes a free agent for 2022. If he is fair dinkum about returning here and giving FB a go then we are in with a shot. in the meantime we continue to negotiate a release from Melbourne that doesn't involve us giving up a player.

If they won’t play ball then we just sign JAC officially on Nov 1 from 2022 onwards. Storm might be willing to release him to us early if they find a replacement before then.

Stories now in the SMH with Slater reckoning JAC will make it at fullback with the Tigers.
Seems a forgone conclusion he'll be with us.
Probably Tamou as well.

Until its announced I am not convinced unfortunately... Especially with the Suli guy at Souths asking outrageous demands for a guy that hasn't even played a reserve grade game.. Not the kind of guy I would want on my team.. My gut feeling is he pulls out and guess what..... JAC to souths just like LM again..

If that's the case it'll show how badly he wants to play fullback.

Danger here is that other clubs may also enter the fray...

the only way i want the club to muss out on JAC is if we sign Harry Grant long term.
Some on here are falling over themselves to sign nofo up long term here we are we have a genuine and current rep player in JAC and we will not look at trading a talau ... yet we let storm have Mommo last year for Grant. Look at Masters and Suli they looked great at first but never kicked on... Talau may never kick on either... he is worth sacrificing (we let Papi go and he will turn out better than talau).
We jumped in with AJ when we should have sat back and could have had JAC and Staines or Hetherington .

I agree, I don't expect much for us to happen in 2021. 2022 is when it might get interesting anyway with Packer, Reynolds gone, we'll be able to get more signings, a decent half and a decent forward. I just want him locked in 2021 or 2022. I don't care that much. It would be nice 2021 but no deal breaker.
