I cant believe we miss out on a test star and some fans think we handled it well. Its a good thing none of us accept mediocracy

Fox at that money and losing Nofa would make us worse in the long term. You make that deal if you are challenging for a title. We unfortunately are not there’s no short cuts.

Just watched the Titans and Bulldogs start taking those very shortcuts that don’t exist.

so what does it say about star players perception of our club?

They don't consider us a good option. It's that simple. The thing is you don't control that assessment. You just manage your cap as well as possible and look to develop a winning team.

Maybe we can't buy a top level player. No many clubs seem to buy top level players. Top clubs lose quality players all the time as well. Personally I think signings like AD and LL are examples of the club getting it right. There are plenty of examples of the club getting it wrong.

I suppose we just need a couple of juniors to develop into stars.

Mansour would be a spectacular failure.

JAC is a dog.

Pascoe and co are useless. The deal was there to be done, we stalled and stalled and now miss out. Pathetic and embarassing.

Big pressure on Talau to play origin next year

You sure it wasn’t JAC that stalled and stalled?

Yes. This is our fault.

Storm had publicly said they would release JAC after a suitable player was acquired. We failed to swap two vastly inferior players for one of the best players in the game. Most clubs would have waited for a while to try and make a deal without giving up anything, but there comes a time when a deal must be made. Other clubs would have pulled the trigger. We didn't.

Talau is a promising junior. Who's had injury issues. How many players like that have we had that went on to play origin? Even swapping Nof for jac is a huge upgrade. We've been moaning Nofs awful defence for years. He's just above average. And he's identical to Mansour. Which is why we most cetainly do not need or want him.

I'm tired of this.

Tell me, Just tell me how you are going to make either of these two players leave their families and go to Melbourne, WHEN THEY DON'T WANT TO GO?

Are you going to force them at gunpoint, kidnap them and put them in the back of a truck and drive them down there, threaten to kill their families - I'm really interested in how yourself and others advocating the gift to the Storm (it is not a swap), plan to do this????

Please enlighten us.

???

Now you're speaking for them telling us what they want to do. Stop being a delusional fool

I take exception to your name calling - cut it out!

My point was that I don't believe he bluntly refused our offer as we had means to negotiate if that was the case. Melbourne obviously reviewed their situation, upped their offer to him to stay. So really it came down to a decision to stay with Melb. Or sign with us. He considered Melb the better offer at this stage. My post was pointing out that his decision had nothing to do with trying to get to the dogs or souffs.

I don’t see it that way. In my view, Storm refused to buckle. They had a contract in 2020 and again in 2021. They considered themselves shrewd in signing the Foxx and would only relinquish the fruits of their labour if they weren’t losing out, iow they wanted another Foxx.
The $100k was an afterthought sweetener, to say, hey, we love your work keep it up! These 3 owners are hands on consummate professionals.

I usually try to be nice but it literally blows my mind that some people can't see the direction the club is heading. We have literally signed most of the ousltstanding young talent coming up in both qld and nsw. We are recruiting youth not journey man. We are throwing our hat in the ring for some of the most dynamic young players in the game.
These have not happened for us in 10 years.

Stop thinking because we try and don't get its a failure. You can't force someone to play here but we are having a real shake.

The young talent is great - but guess what, they are unproven and just potential at this time.

And guess what, we have been a 'potential' side for too long. We keep waiting for this so called potential to be met, but it never does.

Understand that it's this frustration that is leading to this reaction.

We placed great offers to LM and JAC (both more than they got) and couldn't land them - so what does it say about star players perception of our club?

It says exactly what we know we are not a destination club. So how do you change that? New coach, tried that, new staff, tried that, new management tried that, new sponsors, tried that, new training set up, trying that.

So what's the answer all you amazing tacticians have, what's the answer? You all love a whinge find solutions. How would you have gotten jac over the line.

Ffs there is no quick fix to get us to become a destination club. Whether we like it or not we are a bottom feeder. Yes most likely most of the young talent won't pan out. But some hopefully will. If we had started this style of recruitment process 5 years ago we would have a number of quality players now.

Now if we had signed lm or addo car do we make the finals maybe but probably not. So who is the mystery person that wants to come that turns us into a contender?

There is a future now there wasn't before yes its a little away. If you can't handle the process get off the boat.

My life jacket is on and done up. Year 10 of our 18 year plan is gonna be a doozy.

So you obviously have a better solution then the 20 people they have hired at the club. How would you in your brilliance change the club? How would you have gotten jac over the line.

It's the only option hey...

The Pamfers & Storms approach is exactly how we need to do it. Build from within and weed out the pea hearts along the way.
Only way to ensure long term success.

Other players not wanting to come here is understandable given our recent success. That would change of course if we were consistent contenders, but until then keep on pinching those elite juniors.

Stress free off-season from now on... I'm off to da pub:grin:

Do we urgently need halves? I'd try out Adam D with Brooks in the halves, with Laurie at fullback. And if Adam D doesn't work out, swap back to him at fullback and Laurie in the halves. And there's Walters and J Rey to keep some pressure on them too.

I reckon with Tamou, Musgrove and Stefano Utoikamanu all added to the mix we'll have a strong pack next year.

I get people are disappointed in not getting JAC, but I don't think it's as doom and gloom as people are making out.

And frankly if he's the kind of person to be dumb enough to be posting images to instagram of breaking the law with his buddy Latrell maybe it's not the greatest loss.

That is one of the worst backlines I have read.

There's nothing to suggest either of these statements is true. In fact it's more likely they're false - he signed an agreement to that affect.

I suspect his new manager has pumped his tires about his value and Melbourne might have realised they need him more than they thought. He sat down with them and worked on a new arrangement - the Tigers probably weren't even mentioned in the discussion because the HOA is irrelevant if he stayed. I think we're a bit paranoid with the 'everyone hates us' narrative.

It's analogous to the clause in Harry's contract if Cam Smith played on. If Smith retires the clause isn't exercised. If JAC stays in Melbourne the HOA becomes null and void.

Yeah I think a few things have happened over the past 6 weeks to change the whole negotiations scenario. Firstly Melbourne winning the comp and the euphoria of it all, JAC’s incredible spike in form during this time. He’s always been good, but he’s seems to have gone to a whole new level lately and he has become integral to the Storm’s success. And now with the probability of Smith retiring, Vunivalu already as good as gone to Rugby. I just think Melbourne have realised they can’t really afford to lose all these key players at once and the only one they could actually do something about keeping is JAC because he is actually still under contract with them!

Don’t see us offering burton as much as bulldogs. He looked alright but he’s not worth $500k a season already.

We don’t need a half .... we need a fullback and a back row and/or a lock.

We might need a half if brooks and Doueihi don’t work out. We really do need a second rower and id get josh McGuire to play lock seems like Brisbane are happy to release him.

Brayden Trindall would be worth a look, but in saying that we have so many young halves coming through that if in fact one or the other don't work out, we should have it sorted in our own backyard within the next few years.

I always liked the way he plays. He's leaving the Sharks. Big body, great defender and a clever half.

Don't think he is a patch on Burton though Paws.
