OFFICIAL Jack Bird #299

Birdie has been great off the bench , plenty enthusiasm, Tackles , Runs , sledges ,
Hunt , May , Skelton been awesome
Turuva , a try scoring machine we so dearly needed .
Luai , just makes the difference in all aspects of our team and game , players respond to playing with quality , it brings out there best .
AD , Toa , Red , API , TDS , all going very well

I really, really like him. an absolute dogged defender and a competitive nature we've lacked for years.

I just hope he can stay healthy.
You got the same again this week, and I reckon you’ll get the same quality output next week too. He’s a committed NRL player. It was great to get him at a good price, he might be one of the few retirees that actually earn their money in terms of not only the blah blah of off field experience, but also on the field.
He might find himself in the centres next week.
I got a pic of Justin Olam rolling into concord this morning, he’s still a couple weeks away from being ready.

I never liked Bird and Luai.
Thought they were both grubs.

Now they're my favourites. Along with Bula & Turuva.

Benji said he loves this team...
How they are off the field, as well as what they're showing on the field.

They all got some Hawaiian BBQ (Grubbies Burgers Hawaiian BBQ, at Slacks Creek) after the game last night, as a squad.
That was great to see also.

It must be love if you see someone eat a stacked BBQ burger and still say "that's great".

No one looks great eating monster burgers.

Yea, I take the point though. I was never a Jack Bird fan till now. Luai however always impressed me. I saw him as a part of that Penrith "we love to play" group. The way he and Brian To'o carried on was just great to see because you could see they just loved footy. .. Ok I know, I should hate them.

It was just good to see some westies and Islanders play with passion and excitement after watching Storm and Easts just clinically stunt the game for so long. I don't know how it works but Luai seems to bring Professional + Fun to the table.

I was of the opinion Bird was coming to top up his super, we've been burnt way too many times before. I was really sceptical. My hope for him grew when he announced in the preseason off his own bat he had hired a sprint coach to work with him. Only early days yet but looks like a really good reliable pick up

I’ve always been a big fan of Jack Bird, ever since his debut season at the Sharks, he was unbelievable! He’s always been a goer, tough as they come and can literally cover any position 1-13! Super dependable, the bloke you want alongside u in the trenches! Poor guy just has been unlucky with injuries, but hopefully that’s a thing of the past now 🔥🤝🏾

You described succinctly the state of the world. I mean look at your neighbours. No one talks anymore. Not like before - One day we like em next day we hate em. One day a grub next day a profit.
How fickle can humans be. Lucky we be winning. There is hope for all of us . You nailed it Demps. You speak for the many. Birds are different.

Of all our signings this year, he was probably the least exciting. I thought he's here to get his retirement check, be injured for half a season and then move off to Super League.

It might still happen, but he has surprised me his first month here. No matter where he is on the field, his defense is immaculate. I don't think he makes too many metres post contact but he fights hard in every tackle.

Very happy with the signing so far and hope he keeps going.

He usually plays off the bench and does a great job..Yesterday he was put in the centres to cover AD and did a fantastic job..shows that he is a true NRL player and not just a fly by nighter..

It feels like we're building a team of scrappers. Not discounting the ability there but a bit like the sharks running into their premiership
Fighters
Absolutely.
They are scrappers. They havent played that well yet and could easily be sitting at 4 & 0.

Rd1 - Typical round 1 crapfest. In the end the side who was less shit won and that was due to a couple of their classy players standing up. We were missing 2 of our own classy players and couldnt get there but kept trying hard.
Rd 2 - This was our most complete performance. That said, it was still pretty ill disciplined and the boys had to fight their way into the match before the points flowed.
Rd 3 - Started poorly and fought back from 18-6 down to score the next 24 points with no more against. A lot of fight in that win.
Rd 4 - We were missing our biggest meter eater from set restarts and lost our centre who is kicking at near 100% in the warmup. Also lost our top tryscorer and 2024 player of the year during the match. We also lost the ruck early on. Despite all this, we created more than enough chances to win.

This squad is a lot different to those past. I got pretty shitty last year when people said "weve turned the corner"...I thought it was BS and was vindicated when we once again received the spoon. However...this squad has turned the corner for mine! They are playing for each other, playing for the coach and fully understand the assignment from the fans perspective. They are staying in games when the flow isnt going with us and are able to strike back against the tide. They have a lot of points in them and when they click, they score quickly. They dont have the best defence in the comp, yet after the first three games, were leading the competition for conceeding the least amount of points. That is because they are scrapping and scrambling.
They actually give a shit and I think thats something we havent seen from a Wests tigers squad for a long time.
