Could just give the captaincy Brooks who struggles to string a sentence together on camera and offers little leadership or game icing ability on the field. Not saying Hastings is the logical choice as captain however he sure plays like a leader and isn't afraid to do the talking on and off the pitch.

It’s not logical. It’s actually illogical. Hasn’t done anything you have described at NRL level against the top sides.

Neither has anyone else in the squad except Tamou. Whether he's done it at NRL against top sides is irrelevant really, the fact is he has the qualities of a leader. He has captained the Combined Nations Allstars team which automatically makes him more qualified than 99% of the squad.

That’s such a big deal that I had to google it.

Name anyone in the current squad more qualified other than Tamou considering AD wont be there to start the season. I'm not saying he deserves it straight up however it's more a reflection of the serious void in leadership.

Twal, Stefano, Liddle, Garner, Laurie

Of that list maybe Twal.

Liddle and garner are not even guaranteed to be in the side. Stefano and Laurie are rookies still learning their role.

What do you think Hastings is in NRL terms? He’s only played 20 more games than Laurie and Stefano

He was a man of steel recipient in the UK.
Several steps above those two in terms of experience.

So were Hardacker and Tomkins and neither looked decent when they were in the NRL

Tomkins was pretty good, just not on the level of the top-flight fullbacks at the time. Hardaker only played about 10 games after coming across mid-season if I recall rightly and I think he was mostly played out of position at centre.

So in other words the Man of Steel was not on the level of the best NRL players. That’s a ringing endorsement.

Hastings has a lot to prove..seems hungry for success .. he adds to the squad.. just like every player that pulls on our jersey (bar Bwaith)..I hope he slays it..do us proud young man..

Pretty much sums it up mate

Watching Jackson Hastings highlights of the million times I feel him and Diane Laurie are going to have a amazing combination

Yes that is something worth getting excited about.
Hopefully they bring Noffa back to his 2020 form as well.

That will be up to Nofo - his issues this year were attitude related. If he fixes that and decides to run straight and hard then he's a chance.

Agreed. He dragged his feet like a tantrum throwing toddler this year and seemed to be feuding with many in the team.
A lot to work on mentally in the off season.

I understand he had some personal issues off the field which may have affected him on it. Hopefully he gets that sorted for his own wellbeing.

"just like every player that pulls on our jersey (bar Bwaith)"

and all those that watched the opposition run around and score under the posts instead of tackling them.

Im worried about this. I like Daine and he has been our best prospect at fullback since Teddy but Im not convinced he is a natural FB.

What I mean by this is he always struggles to find his place when injecting into the backline or running off a pass. He always seems to stutter and gets picked off easily.

I was a (much) lower grade FB when young and what I think is wrong is something I used to do wrong as a kid and that is when you are running off your half/five eight you are looking at him and basing where you run on them but you need to be looking at the defence and run at the hole and let the 6/7 worry about hitting you.

If Laurie can get this part of his game sorted he will be the complete package but it doesnt seem to be natural to him.

Agree. He's a great broken field runner but Daine also looked out of sorts and got picked off with ease when chiming in on set backline plays. Gus reckons he's a 6. Say what you like about Gus, but I reckon he might be right on this one.

This once again highlights our lack of depth - play Daine at 6, and who is the fullback? No one recognised and as much as I rate Logen Dillon, he's not ready for FG - needs to prove himself in KOE first.

It can get awfully uncomfortable sitting on the fence...Personally I'm looking forward to seeing what Hastings can bring to the side - we desperately need leadership in the side as that has been sorely lacking this year. Hopefully Jackson can bring that and perhaps direct the team a bit better around the field than those before him.

unsure if it's been mentioned yet and I apologise if it has, but Jacko did a podcast this morning with the Rugby League Guru and it's a bloody good listen.

I like the fact that he says he wants to come over here shake Luke Brooks' hand and put his arm around him and tell him he supports him. this bloke is going to be sensational for us I think.

This is a classic example of a post that I’d respond to and get called a hater for being honest. How does him shaking Brooks hand amount to him being sensational? Sorry for not getting caught up in the romance of it and using my own superlatives but he could help old ladies cross the street, and it won’t amount to a thing he does on the field.
