Jahream Bula #269

So a couple games at the start of the season is going to shape the next 4 or 5 years of his career? I don’t think so.
We will see

Not the end of the world if he leaves but its just my opinion that a good start to the year increases his chances of staying significantly. I dont think its unreasonable that he is waiting to see if the vibes in the place translate to on field results.

Your opinion is that he will leave. That is fine

Great thing is we will find out who is right at some stage

So the club is "planning" to sit down with Bula in the next month.... what a lot of spin.... the club has been sitting down with Bula and his manager since before preseason.... and nothing... there is no more to discuss... he is......

When have any of these long, drawn out contract negotiations ever resulted in a player re-signing? It doesn’t happen. Makasini will be next. He’s already declined a contract extension. The only players willing to play their career entire here are guys like Twal.
He declined a contract extension according to who? Moley. I genuinely don't know why people still take this guy seriously he said To'a & Api were leaving last year & what happened...

Nice, hopeful start to the year GNR?

Well, WT did recruit the Panthers young gun prob ready end of 26 season. Do we pee off all Moses clients inc Godinet? If Bula goes and its got Moses fingerprints all over it I reckon we should.
Yeah, have to agree with this Bula is the line in the sand moment it would back up the feeling that through the years Moses just wants to put a spanner in the clubs works.

Why would any Wests Tigers player who wants to stay at the club join his stable with the shit history he has with us.

Yep. It totally doesn’t track with his comments about going to Rugby at all. I guess if it’s not convenient, it can’t be true.

I keep my posts generally rare in this forum but I did want to say that I don't like the way a lot of people in this forum approach contract negotiations like this.

The insulting of Bula, the suggestion we should let him go straight away, the insinuation that we have juniors who can replace him or (the worst) the suggestion that we put in our best rookie in a generation (who is a centre) into fullback. Lets be clear:
  1. Losing Bula would be a disaster - he has been our best fullback prospect (by far) since Tedesco and has heaps of growth in him - just look at the games last year with and without him. Anyone who follows footy can see we are easily a better side with his threat
  2. We will not be able to find a suitable replacement for him in the near future. I have watched enough junior games to know Logan Brookes is not the answer, nor is Attard (the Panthers rarely let the good ones go - Katoa excepted). On the free market pickings are even slimmer and suggestions like Purdue (a centre who wants to play 5/8th) beggar belief
  3. We NEED to pay overs for players. There is so much stink around us as a club due to those idiots at HBG that any good player manager knows they can get more out of us. Without saying too much I work in the legal field and am around many of the player managers and the fact is players don't want to pay for an unstable team unless its for money. Although - I will say the feedback on Benji (sans Isaac Moses) is very positive, the players adore him. The important thing is that people understand what a big contract is for a player of Bula's quality. 1 million now is not 1 million 5 years ago. With the rate of projected growth in the salary cap it will not be long before we have our first 2 million dollar player. For the player I think Bula will be we should pay whatever he asks for.
I understand that people are upset that this is happening again. I am as well. But we need to do what it takes to sign Bula and if we cannot do that jump on the option so we have 2 years to find his replacement. This Tigers team is a top 8 side, who knows maybe a good year will be enough to convince him to say but more importantly it will give Benji some breathing room and time to sign someone who will be our long-term fullback.

Apologies for the rambles.

Bula has had a long ,long time to evaluate extension of 1 year,2 years and 4 years..all around 900k,which is more than his market value as about the 12th best fb in the NRL
He has chosen not to do take up any of these opportunities with WTs,and wait for our option for 27 to expire
Oor only decision is whether club takes up its option for 27
and seperatly.... if we cld trade Godinet for someone non Moses managed Id be inclined to push that
