Why anyone feels compelled to follow footy players, or any celebrity for that matter is something I will still be trying to work out 5 years after I’m dead. There’s clearly a generation gap at play here. Back in my day, once you became A professional athlete you lose any affiliation you had to teams you supported as a kid.
