I’ve wondered for a while if his camp and the club are in a battle of who blinks first. Will the club cave at the 11th and decide to pay him 900k. Especially after Luai. It’s going to look poor if we lose both those guys in the space of two or three weeks.

I dont see a scenario where he isnt here next year. Benji wants to keep him, so if push comes to shove I think the club make a move. I'd be suprised and disappointed if they didnt. If we go on to make the top 4 and dogs dont make the 8, then the real worry would be PNG - which I could live with.. just not the doggies!

Whatever happens, I hope we at least have him for 2027. I wouldn't say we have a premiership window open - we definitely have a finals window open - but it probably shuts if he leaves after this season.

Jack Attard in our reserves looks very promising, but his defence is below even Scott Drinkwater level. Another year in reserve grade would do him the world of good. If he was our fullback next year, gee we would be in trouble. There are a few players off contract at the end of 2027 who could be good options too.

There is talk the new TV deal might not be the bonanza they were expecting. Most Tv and streaming companies get a fair chunk of their revenue from betting companies and there are new laws in place and others in the pipeline that will restrict these companies and how and when they advertise.

With the ratings the NRL are getting at present you would imagine they will still be able to broker a good outcome, but the gambling industry is a big part of their revenue stream
