But you also take two positions.

You say that if he stayed on a team-friendly deal, great, while at the same time you suggest you wouldn’t be inclined to keep him anyway considering his lack of improvement.
Seems contradictory.
How do you reconcile that?

Yes I could've been clearer, but what I mean is I'm inclined to let him go if he's asking for too much because his lack of improvement suggests it's less likely he'll improve enough to a point where the price tag is justified.

If instead I thought he were showing consistent signs of improvement and was adding to his game, then I could live with overpaying him based on his current ability/value because there'd be a chance he'd grow to meet/exceed the contract.

If we get him at a fair price, then his improvement is a bonus rather than something we've paid and are hoping for.

They're using it a lot this year.

We shouldn’t be waiting for improvement from a 4th year player that may never come.
At this point he’s not adding anything we can’t get from a standard NRL fullback.
Whether or not there’s value in the market, if we are serious about contending, we should be moving him on and backing someone with real upside. Fullback is too crucial a position to settle.

If the rules remain as is, then we are in a premiership window for 2028. So if its between Bula and Kennedy for 28, then we retain Bula. Kennedy may have been an acceptable option a few yesrs ago, but no more run of the mill players please. I want to see the tigers win a comp.
