Jahream Bula #269

Good point, when it comes to blooding young players Sheens is one of the best for all the Groat etc calls look at the hundreds of others he got correct. I wouldn't be surprised if he gives him a taste to see how he goes and then could shift him between KOE and first grade. Sheens is no dummy when it comes to developing young talent, something Madge had issues with.
At this point clearly Sheens feels he is under no pressure to win games unlike every other coach who has to select a side that they believe is the best team to win. People talk about "young talent" as if it has existed at the club to promote when in reality we have players that may develop into FG players but without the quality around them individually will make no difference to the performance of the team. Strong clubs promote their young players not cause they are desperate for wins, but when they have the players around them to assist with the transition with no expectation to individually stand out. We havnt been in any position to do that for years and still aren't.

This year we have the forwards to show the way but not the backs

Bula will become the second Wests Tigers player to make his NRL debut this season when he runs out for the ANZAC Round match at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The 21-year-old has today been elevated into Wests Tigers Top 30 squad, extending his playing contract through until the end of the 2025 season.

The Auckland-born outside back has been named at fullback for Sunday’s Round 8 game against the Sea Eagles.

Head coach Tim Sheens says Bula has earned this opportunity.

“He had a brilliant pre-season and has played well in the KOE Cup,” said Sheens.

He’s a talented young man and has a very bright future.

Chief Executive Justin Pascoe says it’s pleasing to see another player step up through the club’s pathways teams.

“It’s nice to see a player transition through Jersey Flegg and NSW Cup, like Jahream has,” said Pascoe.

“He got a taste of the top grade in our Pre-season Challenge match in Auckland and that was good for his development.

“We are delighted to have Jahream and his family as a part of this club long term.”

Bula says he’s a little nervous but excited about Sunday.

“I’ve been training my whole life for this opportunity,” he said.

“If you told me two years ago that I’d be playing in the NRL I would’ve laughed and taken it as a joke.

My faith has kept me grounded throughout this journey and now I get to showcase the abilities God has given me.

"None of this is possible without the man above.

“I’m extremely grateful for the support of all my family and friends, and I would not be here today without them.

“I am also grateful to my partner who makes me want to become the best version of myself.

“I want to thank Tim Sheens and the coaching staff here at Wests Tigers for the time they have invested in me, and for blessing me with this opportunity.”

Bula relocated with his family from Auckland to Queensland in 2016, where he attended Keebra Park State High School.

He's played a handful of games this season for Western Suburbs Magpies in the Knock On Effect NSW Cup, after playing Jersey Flegg Cup for Wests Tigers in 2022.

If he’s struggling I’m sure he’ll be shifted to the Wing-
remember a guy called Chris Lawrence- no one had heard of him- I think he was only 17 when he got called up if memory serves me -he was another sheens discovery, the team didn’t no who he was , just saying.
I think the side announced will have a few tweaks made. Maybe involving Staines /Bula and AJ / Talau.

I hold something when doing number 1s for nearly 50 years.
Really this is sheens giving him a taste. If he goes well good but like benji and farah he will get a taste in his first year. Thats Tim. Look at the guys who had a couple of game in 03. Sheens gives talent a taste they will not hold down a spot....
I was in diapers back then but I have a strong belief Bula is here to stay but I’ll most likely be wrong haha

No offence mate. Just think sheens gives them a taste. He could be like benji...the catalist in our couple of wins but he will only get a taste.

I have very little confidence in Shenji tbh,and an concerned that the premature elevation of Bula against one of the comps frontrunners is simply a PR stunt designed to distract attention away from the shockingly inadequate performance of the coaching staff.Possibly at theexpense of a young talent..
Yep.."were a development team"..."investing in the future.." "dont worry about todays result/performance" bla bla..take heat of the result and the coaches for the time being
Cynical I know...but have seen enuff
Hope Im wrong
It sucks but when a team has been losing for so long, sometimes it’s the only way to win again I.e take the pressure off, don’t focus in the result, focus on smaller in-game goals. That’s why he always talks about certain stats and winning the second half. It’s positive psychology 101 and the poor bastards have had a bit of negative psychology over the past few years. Especially Brooks

Does anyone else find pascoes comments on these cringe worthy? Always a cookie cutter response. Should leave it to the football department if he wants to claim no responsibility for results.
