Jahream Bula #269

Did really well today and as expected, Manly really targeted him, and even though he made a couple of mistakes it didn't look like it shook his confidence.

For the most part he looked pretty good on debut.
I noticed that. It looked like Manly had blinkers on to smash Tupou, Kepaoa and Bula from the start.

Tough pack to play against, but we went with them all game.

Our pack was wayyy better than theirs today
You think?
Which one of our pack are they talking about as an Origin must have...
Who was the player in our pack that matched Olakauatu yestersay (Or any other day)

As an overall average, We may have them on par, Or slightly bested...
- But they have game breakers in the pack, we don't....

Kautoga is about as close as we've had in years - But we let him go to the dogs...

We contained their pack pretty well - but with the ball we don't have a forward who can regularly bust through the advantage line.
Stef showing some better progress this year certainly has the speed but needs some aggression when hits the advantage line. Twal ran the ball better than I've seen in an age actually had some leg speed - but yep really lack aggressive ball runner.

Bula looks good, did a couple of good things. I like the way he got out of the in goal when he got run down by Woods after making good ground.
A good start in the NRL.
He does look more like a basketballer than an NRL FB, but at 21 I’m sure he can add some muscle.

I was happy with Jahream.

Was actually most impressed with his effort in looking for the ball.

In the first half he was looking for carries at least once a set, even when we were getting bashed coming out of our own end.

I’m sure there’ll be some good and bad moments with him over the rest of this year as he’s still very raw, but he looks a prospect to me.

Agree....
I honestly thought Olakauatu and Schuster would have a field day....
Still think Twals work and urgency off the ball needs work.
Feel we're trying to get something out of him that just isn't there...

Our pack was significantly better (Olakau'atu aside) and the stats show it. We completely and utterly dominated field position.

The other thing about Olakau'atu has DCE feeding him passes. Our guys have ... Brooks. Put DCE inside Papali'i and Brooks inside Olakau'atu and Papali'i is the one who looks like a world beater (just like he did at Parra with Moses and Brown).

As far as Bula goes - I thought it was a good debut. Definitely enough there to think he can become a good player in the NRL. He's definitely got some creativity in him and can make things happen with the ball in his hands. He seems to have a bit of that confidence and swagger you see in guys like Latrell.

He'll naturally add a few kilos as he gets older to fill out his frame and if he can add a little more speed, he could become a real threat as a kick returner and chiming in on backline plays. I'd like to see him in the 1 for the rest of the season for sure.

The best clubs are the best because they are ahead of the recruitment game. If we predict young players are the real deal we need to sign them up as soon as we can.

I’m a fan of this kid myself after what he did today. Looks to read the game well and apart from one error he was good. He’ll have ups and downs but we have 200 gamers who are still inconsistent.

Him and Pole look like guys you stick with.
He went very well... I thought it may have been premature as he's just coming back from an injury lay off
He can be proud of his efforts

He went ok especially for his debut, however i would still rather see him on the wing for a few weeks to ease his way into the team as Staines does a reasonable job at fullback

The play to cut Saab down one on one 40 out then end up at marker at the play the ball yet somehow be there in the in goal to defuse the chance THEN beat multiple defenders and start the set 20 out from the Tigers line….genuinely might be the best play from a WT #1 since Teddy.

173 metres and 5 tackle breaks for Jahream.
Couple of handling errors but also a couple of huge plays defensively.
Looked more at home than expected.

New board member and former Magpie John Dorahy presented Jahream Bula with his debut jersey. A presentation that had Jahream in tears. Congrats again to Jahream.

Thanks champion @Tiger_Fanatic3 - your post has brought me a Monday morning smile amid all the disappointment of another loss.

Any idea when that was so I can rewatch?
