Can I ask a question .....could clubs not do this for fans wanting to say goodbye to injured retiring footballers

Yeah it was never going that way. He'll take the field, they'll kick off and he comes off. It's just so he can rack up 100 games. Absolutely no way the NRL would sanction him actually playing.
Very Honorable for the NRL.
Footballers retiring due to injury happens all the time. Arrow's situation is a bit different, its a gesture for a bloke who is literally dying.
Reynolds pretty much got to have his whole career, and he's not staring down the barrel of an aggressively fatal disease.
They can always give him a lap of honour.

Don’t get me wrong, he deserves all the love and support he’s getting. What happened to Nathan Merritt though? His situation is just as dire and perhaps has even less time than Arrow. All he got was to ring the bell on Good Friday and he was sent on his way.
Well the obvious reason would be he'd already retired for a start, he didn't have his career cut short by his illness.
Which is probably why they did get him out and get him to ring the bell. And I would highly doubt Souths have just "sent him on his way." As much as I don't like them, Souths seem to be pretty good at getting around their past footy players and supporting them where they can, especially with Bennett at the helm too.
Anyone remember when Parramatta did something similar with Peter Sterling to qualify him for the reserve grade semis? He’d be a metre from the sideline at kick off and get replaced straightaway.
South should keep.an interchange spare and.put him on for the last minute too...be nice if theyre well.in front...maybe not a.good idea if its close
Apparently he can't even run anymore. He'll be walking on and off the field. It's quite scary and sad how quickly it is debilitating him.

Wests done it in either 91 or 92. May have been Paul Langmack. One of you smarter people might know more
That often happened in the old days when teams would play all 3 grades at home.I remember Balmain running Kevin Hardwicke on the field in u21's in the 80's subbed him immediately so he could play semis.

A bit different, but Brian Smith intentionally didn’t pick Kirk Reynoldson at the Knights because Reynoldson had a clause that he could activate if he played X amount of games. He was about two games away and Smith dropped him and refused to pick him again.
Kevin Hardwick - one of my favourite players in the 80s.
Wasnt aware he was that crook now
