Jake Mullaney's future with Wests uncertain

I don't think his boss is going to be too Happy..In fact Mr Sheens is going to be mighty pissed off… whatever chance he did have has just disappeared.

Good to see family support can't blame Mum and Grandma On the other hand his manager should know better....1st thing I would do is get a new Manager.

It certainly sounds like the Tigers have just about made their minds up on young Jake. If they let him go, it narrows down the options for fullback in 2012, but makes me think all the more than Joel Reddy will be wearing the number 1 jersey next season while James Tedesco continues to develop in the NYC for the next 2 years.

Great minds think alike Willow Unless there is another signing in the closet that we don't know about that will be the way it is next season I reckon .

Is my memory right? Doesn't Mullaney have a bit of a problem in defence? After watching many NYC matches, it is obvious that defence is not as important as it is in the NRL. As a result, scores like 45 to 32 are very common. Maybe, Mullaney's defensive performance was acceptable in the NYC, when it was balanced against his very good attacking ability in that competition.
Since the Tigers have been struggling to stay in the top eight, it may be that our brains trust do not believe it is wise to risk another loss by playing him. Has his defence improved this season?

For once I actually believe Sheens has got it right with Mullaney, who IMO needs to prove with consistent out-performances in JBC that he's worthy of inclusion in 1sts.
No point in Mullaney showing his hilites reel from 2 years ago in U20s,because apart from playing amongst kids, thats now history
And most importantly,we dont need yet another turnstyle in defence(we have 2 already) or another weakness under the high ball(we have at least one of those in our back three too)-Mullaney has to rectify these problems ,& if he doesnt he's unlikely to make the transition to the NRL anywhere.
Most astute coaches playing against Ben Barba(except of course our Tim Teflon who didnt quite get it)have demonstrated how you can isolate these weaknesses at the top level & turn an oppostion asset into a vulnerability..& thats exactly the same fate awaiting Jake atm

I think with all the injuries and the lack of fire power at the back he should have been given a go. Big difference playing in the top grade with a few quality players around you to playing reserve grade in a side that is not actually going that well. Of course the same could be said for Meaney and probably a few others

Yes. He should have been given a go absolutely. He is the sort of player that rises to the level of those around him. He would be another Nathan Gardner.

Just like a couple of other fullbacks before him he wasn't part of the cool kids gang and hasn't been given a look in by Mr Sheens. Jake isn't the first fullback to be promised a start in the top grade only to be put on the scrap heap a few months later.

Hope Tedesco is given a go in the next 12-18months.

Maybe, but Sheens said before Lote even started that he saw him as a fullback. He wanted to give him a good season on the wing before hand. I won't be surprised if Lote is moved to fullback. I don't think we will know till next year. I would love to have an attacking weapon at fullback willing to charge straight up from receiving the ball..Plus Lote in support play could be dangerous also. He would need to develop his positional play though.

i dont know jay ,,,isnt lote starting to bet a bit old to start taking on the fullback role …its real hard to work out some of sheens thinking ...as for mullaney ,...gee mum and grandma may have helped to push him out of the club ...he definately has the attacking game ,,, but he dosent have the defensive game and maturity to run the team from the back imo....

I'd reckon Humpty and James were years apart… Correct me if I'm wrong, But Humpty was going around in the early 80's and James in the Late 80's early 90's....
Mullaney was good against Kids, And is great when we are on the Front Foot... But at State Cup level, Meaney is a head and shoulders above him... AND SOME!!!
He has been found wanting, And if he were not contracted to the NRL side, He wouldn't be there... Period!!
As for his kicking... I don't think there was a point where his Av % was better than Benji's :crazy
ATM He would literally be our 5th choice at FB... And even then an outside 5th...
Wade, Beau, Moltz, Mitch and Meaney are all of far greater talent......
Simple as that!! And most of them aren't rated here???

Why keep jake when Humpty can get his old mates son a gig at Tigers

Whether he would cut the mustard or not is not the issue ..I always have been a believer you should at least be given a go I hate to think what life would be like if we never gave anybody a go to prove themselves ,he could be a world beater or back to Premier league we will never know will we Mr Fonz! Lets face the facts the way a lot of players have been performing and still mantain there spot is a joke IMO so where is the logic.

Looks like Parramatta are making a play for his contract. The link below has it listed at the bottom of the Ben Barba story. Either way, good luck to the kid.

He should move in with Benji now that Moltzens moving out. That should guarantee him a start

I think Moltzen proves that theory wrong. He should have been picked a lot earlier at fullback and he has been let go.

Living with Benji didn't help him at all within the club.

Slightly off topic but Jakes position highlights the faults of the current NYC system. Basically if you haven't made it by 20, our game is saying you are a 'has been'. We need to have a strong reserve grade comp or increase the age of the NYC to U/23 like the old Presidents Cup
