Jake Simpkin #242

From a negative Nellie, good signing Tigers.

I’d love to hear the vision they pitched to the young fella, something like “we’re gonna wack this club on your back and chop your knees out from underneath you” “don’t expect to play footy with any decent rep players throughout your entire career” wouldn’t surprise me.

This season is most likely a right off but next year is building good. We have so many young players coming through that are going great.
Jake is still young can probably bulk up a bit more n get use to the players around him and build combos.
Tuki n tualagi and possibly rogers smith and Cini will be given a proper crack next year. The Flegg side going great n KOE side doing great. When was the last time we had both sides below first grade winning

Awesome, so he will be 23 when his contract is up. Seasoned first grader and ripe for the Roosters to poach.

Lol kidding, awesome! So good

Quote from future newspaper:

"Serious questions are being asked at Concord about why a player was extended after 2 appearances in first grade. Sources close to the club reported Simpkin signed a lucrative extension, upwards of $900,000 per season some 18 months before his contract expired. "

In all seriousness I really liked his game against souths and hope to see him kick on.

Hope we see Liddle at 14 soon in the old Dene Halatau second hooker/lock role.

Wests Tigers re-sign Jake Simpkin

Thats fantastic but a large number of us really dont give a toss. All we care about is quality players who can drag us out of the mud.

You wont get there with quality young men alone, all well and good he is but it has no relevance at this point in our history.

But when we signed Hastings and Roberts a few people on here bagged the club for signing too many people with off-field history.

Yet to see an aggressive bone in Liddle’s body. We need forwards with some mongrel and care factor. No thanks at lock.

Let me be the first to say it........"It's still mathematically possible!"

A smart club would extend him again in 2 years time if he is firing.

So is living until 130 years of age?. Neither is happening.

I’m actually concerned how many people are questioning if he’s actually on 900k for the new deal. You couldn’t be that daft

Don’t forget what we pay/paid guys like Moses, packer and Reynolds (throw Brooks in there for the haters) I’d argue we’ve paid 900K for much worse.

And I'm annoyed at the people who keep shifting the goal posts. First it was "re-sign him now so the Roosters don't poach him", now it's, "what's the point, Roosters will poach him in 2 years anyway".

contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on, if he decides one day that he doesn't want to be at the club anymore he'll ask for a release and its just a matter of time before we cave and release him

Jake has shown a lot so far ...but he needs to double where he is at , at the moment

A lot of areas in his game can be improved

I cant help but go back to the post showing a smiling Luke Brooks so happy to resign....and we still arent in the finals chase...I congratulate Jake on resigning...just hope the mud from this club doesnt stick and he doesnt becomes one of the also rans...another 16 like him and we are finals bound for the next decade...

Shawn Blore and now Jake Simpkin both locked in on long-term deals at the club. Big future ahead.

Shawn who?
Haven’t seen much of him.

Rookie Report: Jake Simpkin
Author - Michael Blok
Timestamp - Wed 22 Sep 2021, 12:00 PM

Although it was just a taste of first grade, youngster Jake Simpkin burst onto the scene in 2021 to show his potential for the future.

Making his debut against South Sydney in Round 6, the 19-year-old hooker played nine games throughout the season — five from the starting side and four from the bench.

Not only did he have some impressive performances in the top grade, but Simpkin was also one of the best players for Western Suburbs Magpies in the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup in 2021.

For the Magpies, he scored seven tries from nine matches and averaged 71 running metres a game, as well as making 234 tackles with an efficiency of 91 percent.

Simpkin also re-signed with the club for a further two-year deal to keep him at Wests Tigers until at least the end of the 2024 season.

“I couldn’t be happier to be here at the club,” Simpkin said.

“I’m really enjoying and excited by what we’re building at Wests Tigers and I want to be part of that long-term.

"I’m determined to keep putting in my best performances each week now and be a contributing factor to bringing success to the club."

WHAT WAS SAID
We firmly believe that Jake is a real up-and-coming talent and his long-term commitment to the future of this club is a strong show of intent in what we’re building at Wests Tigers. In addition to his clear on-field ability, Jake is a fine young man and we’re privileged to see him develop as both a player and a person at Wests Tigers.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe

I think healthy competition drives the environment to big things. I think if ‘Lids’ [Jacob Liddle] and I are biting at each other’s heels then it will go a long way to us being successful in that role.

Wests Tigers hooker Jake Simpkin

STANDOUT PERFORMANCE
Simpkin will never forget his NRL debut match against South Sydney in Round 6.
The young hooker gave it his all as he played 82 minutes in the match that went to golden point.

He produced a massive 58 tackles, touched the ball 110 times and ran for 68 metres.

After the game, he was battled and bruised, and although Wests Tigers suffered a heartbreaking loss, Simpkin had plenty of reasons to be proud of his debut game.

2022 FORECAST
Simpkin will put forward a solid case of why he should be the starting hooker throughout the pre-season, however Jacob Liddle would be the current front-runner for the number nine jersey.

The duo worked in tandem at the backend of the 2021 and it's likely both hookers will be in the 17 next season.

“I’m happy with how Jakey is going and he’s improving every week,” Liddle said.

“He’s like a sponge — he soaks everything up.

“He’s pushing me and I’m pushing him to get better. It’s pushed me to be more of a leader and I’ve been working on that.

“It’s been working well. Where the game is at, at the moment, with the game speed, that impact hooker coming off the bench is working for a few teams.”
