Wests Tigers are pleased to announce that talented young hooker Jake Simpkin has signed a contract extension with the club.

Simpkin, who was already under contract for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, has signed a further two-year deal to keep him at Wests Tigers until at least the end of the 2024 season.

Still only 19 years of age, the promising rake made his first-grade debut against South Sydney earlier this year and has been named to start at hooker for his third game this Sunday against the St. George-Illawarra Dragons.

Simpkin said he was delighted to extend his future with the club.

ā€œI couldnā€™t be happier to be here at the club,ā€ Simpkin said.

ā€œIā€™m really enjoying and excited by what weā€™re building at Wests Tigers and I want to be part of that long-term.

Iā€™m determined to keep putting in my best performances each week now and be a contributing factor to bringing success to the club.

Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire praised the young hooker for his work ethic and his improvement since joining the club last year.

ā€œJakeā€™s worked incredibly hard since heā€™s come to Wests Tigers and has shown a great attitude and commitment to all thatā€™s been asked of him,ā€ Maguire said.

ā€œHeā€™s still got his entire career ahead of him and weā€™re looking forward to watching him develop further as a player in Wests Tigers colours for many years to come.ā€

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe said the club was pleased to secure Simpkinā€™s services at the club long-term.

ā€œOn behalf of all at the club, Iā€™d like to congratulate Jake on his new deal and say how pleased we are to see him commit his future to Wests Tigers,ā€ Pascoe said.

ā€œWe firmly believe that Jake is a real up-and-coming talent and his long-term commitment to the future of this club is a strong show of intent in what weā€™re building at Wests Tigers.

ā€œIn addition to his clear on-field ability, Jake is a fine young man and weā€™re privileged to see him develop as both a player and a person at Wests Tigers.ā€

Itā€™s gotten to that stage where I almost worry when someone like Simpkin comes along, afraid of losing him like the rest. As the Hayne Plane would say ā€œitā€™s been a longgg timeā€

Good to see the club didnā€™t muck around. Would have been a bit nerve racking if he went unsigned for the rest of the year and started really making an impact.

Smart decision from the club, make sure no one else can sniff around him.

Great news.
Madge reportedly chased him and got him to the club,so at least one of our players is comfortable with him.

Thats some good news at least.

was worried he would look to head back to QLD to join the new team.

Thats fantastic but a large number of us really dont give a toss. All we care about is quality players who can drag us out of the mud.

You wont get there with quality young men alone, all well and good he is but it has no relevance at this point in our history.

He has a missus he found in Sydney aswell. Donā€™t underestimate the power of love lol

Gonna be awesome to see him trotting out in tigers colours for the next 4 years! šŸ… šŸÆ

Haha, pretty much. We have to read through a lot of fluff as Wests Tigers supporters.

Any mention of the $$ for the extension? Great news for the club. The more we see these young guys buy in the better for the club long term.

So why wasnt there a qupte from Madge at the end of the article?

normally there is..
