Jamal Idris joins Wests Tigers...Official...

Play him on the Left pushing Simona outside him on the Wing… Would be a devastating combination!

Looks like a predominantly right hand side player to me from these highlights…

Hope the title is apt...

Is it just me, or is it odd that if ET re-signed they wouldn't have made a joint announcement? And why no announcement of McIlwrick. Very strange.

As for Idris. The weirdest signing we've made since Anasta. Weird in the sense that it's going to feel weird seeing him in a Wests jumper.

I reckon spread the news out… why expend all your media coverage at once?

Wow , what a highlights reel. Geez he can hit hard and is nimble for a big man.Welcome aboard.

A year ago i would have said it was a terrible signing but after listening to his interview on sterlo i am enthusiastic.Lets hope JT puts a round peg into a round hole for a change

I watched some of his highlights from when he was on the Coast, and was surprised by how much toe he had. He also played on both sides when he was there.

Ill reserve my judgment. This has the makings of being a huge flop…...

But ill be very happy indeed if I am wrong, very happy!

Blair was a huge flop because we paid so much for him.
If Idris is a flop it's not going to effect of cap, so we haven't got much to loose.
Sounds like he has got his head right.
Hopefully the body is agile enough in defence. We know he likes the contact.
Good signing by the WTs.

True, absolutely. But it does dent our reputation if it goes wrong. **We cant afford to have the reputation that we sign past it pretenders.** Definitely harms our chances of attracting better options if thats our reputation.

Craigie, Hopoate, Buettner, Graham, Moodie, Sattler, O'Hara, Harris, Head, Tandy, Cayless, McKinnon, Utai, Reddy, Anasta - I would think that ship has already sailed, Swordy

Mackinnon didn't cost us a cent first season and I reckon Reddy was underrated by many on here

The rest were woftams though agreed

He is exactly the style of footballer we need, in a position we are lean. He has played at a very high level and isn't particularly old or injury-prone. He's been out of the game for a while so that surely must keep his price very modest.

I can't see how anyone could think negatively of this signing - I think it's one of the better gambles we've ever taken.

And without wanting to be callous at all, if mental health is one of the major concerns for a player, it is perfectly possible to take time out and sort that out to an acceptable level. On the other hand, if your knees are dust, well that's pretty much it.

I did laugh at some of those. How quickly we forget some of the crap that has trudged thtough here. :roll

Every club takes punts on older/unwanted players if they think there might be a bargain to be had. Do you think the next superstar won't sign with the Broncos? I mean, they're more or less a dumping ground for useless ex Tigers: Blair, Gavet, Marshall…

One thing I hope we are not spewing about in 12 months time is….
\

Idris goes to a bigger club after 1 super year with the Tigers

Signing any player who has been out of the game is a gamble, but he has to be better than what we had. He is a good defender and boy do we need a few of them. Also he is a very big boy and will be a handy ball runner especially off the crash ball Clos to the line.

A good budget signing that should work but of course you never know

looking at the highlights he seems to keep copping hospital passes as well, and most of his bustling runs were predominantly from a flat footed start.

Hopefully Moses can deliver the big lad some quality service as well.

Hopefully if he does have a huge season that the Tigers can make a decent offer to him for 2018 and beyond. Given his dad is a Tigers fan he may get into his ear to settle at the one club given we are his fourth NRL team.

How about players we improved or brought the best out of?

Junior Moors, Matt Bell, Blake Austin, Marty Taupau, Naiqama, Ellis, Brett Hodgson, Scott Prince?

Might seem like an eyebrow raiser, however the door swings both ways at all clubs.

Like they say, change is as good as a holiday.

This topic has come up before - some fans selectively remember the signings that didn't work out at their club, but discard those similar signings at other clubs.

Look at Melbourne, who have a reputation for signing nobodies and getting them to play at a solid level, but people overlook the middling recruitment decisions / failure to develop they've made as well:

Arana Taumata, Mo Blair, Junior Moops, Joe Romelo, George Rose, Junior S'au, Lagi Setu, Siosaia Vave, Luke Kelly, Jaiman Lowe, Matthew White, Richie Kennar, Slade Griffin, Hymel Hunt, Tom Learoyd, Dayne Weston, Mitch Garbutt, Richie Fa'aoso, Michael Greenfield, Sione/John Kite, Dane Chisholm, Robbie Rochow, Kostjasyn, Atelea Vea, Justin O'Neill (he went ok but is much much better since switching to Cowboys), Chase Stanley, Troy Thopmson, Travis Robinson…

That is just 7 seasons.

How did Matt Utai get lobbed into the has been basket? Geez he copped some unfair crap while he was here.

He was hot and cold, but I think he was playing park footy for Auburn prior to WT, so has been is probably correct.
