James Tedesco vs. Jake Mullaney

I haven't seen anything from Mullaney in first grade to show me he'll be a long term fullback. His size works against him a great deal.

Tedesco has shown more then Mullaney for me. To get back this year after last season shows great strength and courage. To say he'll be a future star, is way to premature.

Really? I've seen Mullaney play for the Eels four times and on each occasion bar one (against us last year) he was among the best on ground. Must have watched different games I guess.

For me Tedesco is better of the two.Courage like teddy has shown comes with other valuable attributes, you not courageous without will, nor without devotion, also drive. The combination of all of those will make a better footballer, a better team-mate. Its what you expect/regard in a player in the colours you support, he is the kind of player that may let you down, but if he does you have to know he was giving his best…

Still along way for both of them. I think at their peak Tedesco will be miles ahead at the moment neither are Inglis, Slater, Bowen ,Barber or Dugan type players???

Might be just me but teddy reminds me a little of tim brasher.

Coming off the knee reco it was always going to take Teddy time to get back to where he'd like to be physically. I still don't think he's there yet either but at least he's getting consistent football with out any setbacks with the knee. I would hope by season's end he'd be close to that mark once more. I expect him to be significantly better in 2014\. As for the comparison with Mullaney. No doubts Jake's a little more slippery a character but watching Tedesco this season and in 2011, he really appears to have some similarities with Billy Slater. Not for one moment am I saying he'll end up as good but if you had to compare styles of play, Billy's the one i'd liken him to.

No contest Tedesco by the length of the straight.
It wasn't a case of Tedesco v Mullaney. It was Mullaney v Moltzen. We decided to keep Moltzen who is also a better player than Mullaney.
Tedesco is 3 years younger than Mullaney and his not running around in the NYC like Mullaney was at age 20 his in the top grade.
Tedesco still has his knee strapped and he also looks to have been carrying some sort of foot/leg injury since the city/country game he didn't look 100% last week but still managed 160 metres.
Fully fit and with games under his belt not even Mrs Mullaney could say her little boy is better than teddy.

Can hardly compare them.. Teddy is still old enough to play 20's and Mullaney has been out for years… He played state cup with us for 2 I think and is in his second at parra!!
In 3 years time there will be no contest!! When Mullaney was with us in 2nds he was absolute garbage!!... Teddy aint even that bad in 1sts.

Different types Mullaney pretty much has gone as far as he can reggie player with the odd call up. The call on Tedesco is still out for mine….a lot of variables have interrupted his career injuries ,a club in crisis injuries etc . Has heart and willingness to get dirty ,some speed and awareness and seems tough. This season with disruptions to the team there has not been any where near the Combinations that is required to showcase what he could possible be .
A good off season injury free ....hopefully a 1/2 back and some bigger go forward and less injury prone team could see 2014 as Tedesco,s.

Tedesco

x 2

They arent even close… James is still eligible for NYC where as Jake has been playing senior football for 3 years. Maturity is a good asset to have over some of the young bucks, but Teddy has all the attributes to 'succeed' at NRL Level. [ I've never thought Jake would become a quality FB at NRL Level. ]

Tedesco still has alot to learn in my eyes. There are parts of his game you can see as being green, but I'm pretty confident he will work through these things as he develops. Teddy would get alot out of playing Reggies if we had the luxury of having a quality Fullback ahead of him, but we dont. NRL is where he belongs now, and in 2-3 years he should be carving up the competition on a week-to-week basis.

Lets hope we keep him!!!

Overrated for mine. Always seems to have trouble keeping his footing (maybe footwear?]. Runs into the defence instead of into the gaps. His positional play is not bad and he is brave in defusing things. However, some people conveniently forget how ordinary he was on the wing both in defence and attack. He is big enough to hold a bull out and people say he is fairly fast ( no evidence of that at the moment). That being the case, he should be as good as Koro and he is nowhere near that.

Sheens did not like the other young bloke and as we know, if Sheens did not like you then it was goodbye.

Both have attributes and defeciencies, but for mine Tedesco needs a season or two in reserves and then maybe he may show us how good he is.

Who plays fullback in the meantime? I do not know. However, Lawrence played fullback for Australian Schoolboys and I still believe that Benji would improve his present form from that position.

This is the key. People can correct me if I am wrong but I understand Teddy's development has been as follows:

2010- Harold Matthews
2011- SG Ball, half a season of NYC
2012- 30 mins in firsts
2013-first grade and couple of games in reggies.

So before this year, Teddy had only played half a season in NYC.

It's pretty incredible that he has only looked "decent" when you consider how little top level footy he has played.

He hasn't let anyone down at fullback and therefore, unless we had other standouts pushing for his position, which we dont, I would rather see him develop in firsts.

100% spot on!

Tedesco has been good for a kid but certainly hasn't set the world on fire so far. Mullaney hasn't either but Mullaney has been more impressive than Tedesco for mine.

Seriously?

That is ridiculous.

Tedesco is a complete fullback - he has all the skillsets required of a great fullback. Of course he hasn't set the world on fire, he has been playing with a rubbish line up every week. He's yet to play behind a solid, healthy and on-form Tigers team.

In saying that though, he _still_ has been fantastic.

Against Roosters he made one tackle and missed 3
Against Sharks he made 2 tackles and missed 3.

Get the picture… Best on ground  ....Hello Mrs Mullaney

Not sure if Mullaney reads the forum… Either way he has done his best to answer this debate for you....
Woeful!!!

LOL At Sandow after Mullaney drops a sitter of a bomb - Camera on Sandow as he says to Mullaney - "Mullaney! You're F####N Crap!"

I'm sorry Macdougall - he's woeful.
