Jared Haywood

Just can’t get excited now about these hyped up kids anymore …

Either go the Josh Feledy route where they don’t make it to the big time , or they are good and piss off..

Call me when he has played a 100 games for the club..
Fair go mate,

The kid has a great first grade future ahead of him, just like all the other hooker superstars the club has produced, Stuart Flanagan, Pat Politoni, Manaia Cherrington, Joel Luani

What about future immortals like De Gois, and current superstars like Liddle and Simpkins?

This club had a great track record, has immortal written all over him, guarantee it. Just like I can guarantee Benji will be coach in 2027.

Zero tackle reporting that Jared Haywood has had his contract upgraded to a train and trial for remainder of 2025.

Wests Tigers young gun Jared Haywood earns contract upgrade

The upgrade could see him make his NRL debut later this year.

Less than a week after Tallyn Da Silva exited the Wests Tigers to sign with the Parramatta Eels in a mid-season switch, the club has wasted no time upgrading the contract of one of the best young dummy-halves in rugby league.

Overlooked by the Penrith Panthers in the Harold Matthews Cup trials, Jared Haywood has gone on to become one of the best up-and-coming talents at the Tigers and was given his first NRL contract until the end of 2028 earlier this season. He will join the Top 30 roster from 2027 onwards.

Originally set to join the club's development list next season, Zero Tackle understands that he has now earned a contract upgrade and has been rewarded with a train-and-trial contract for the remainder of the 2025 NRL season, which will see him learn off Apisai Koroisau and Tristan Hope on a full-time basis.

The decision to re-sign Haywood comes after he has had a sensational 12 months, which has included being named captain of the Balmain Tigers SG Ball Cup side, leading Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown to the NRL Schoolboys Grand Final, and being named in the 2024 Australian Schoolboys squad.

He also had the opportunity to play in the NRL Pre-Season Challenge earlier this year after being brought into the club by Joe Conti, the father of up-and-coming playmakers Alex and Levi Conti.

In an exclusive interview with Zero Tackle earlier in the year, the St Marys Saints junior opened up about wearing the prestigious Tigers jumper, the importance of his family, and the dream he has had since he was six of one day playing in the NRL.

"It's awesome wearing the Tigers jersey. The pride that me and all the boys have to wear that jersey is unreal," Haywood told Zero Tackle.

"It's what you dream about as a young kid. As a young six-year-old, you dream to play in the NRL and for some people it doesn't work out but for the guys that do, it's one of the best feelings you could ever have."

MORE TO COME...
Will he be the next to leave ?

Will he be the next to leave ?

Depends how good he becomes.

If he's very good, probably not but if he's okay then probably yes.

No seriously, if we are winning games and sniffing around the top eight, then that will help and a perception of us being on the improve then yes, we will keep him.

So no......😉

I know a lot of comments about that our future juniors will likely leave is either in jest, in emotion of TDS going & contributed by frustration.

But each departure has to be looked at independently and the reasons for the departure.

Forget about Tedesco, Moses, Woods etc ... that was a previous incompetent regime!

I keep a 'dossier' of player departures amongst other things (call me perculiar lol) and here is a little sample ...

pre 2022 ... no real pathways players of note left except Mavoni Tuifua who ran into trouble with the law & hasn't kicked on.
pre 2023 - Oscar Jorgensen (went to rugby) & Dudley Dotoi (returned to NQ). Tom Fisher left but returned last season.
pre 2024 - Cooper Clarke (to Storm), Sosefo Finau, Paul Johnson & Alex Conti (to Bulldogs), Mikey Nasser (to Roosters), Lipina Ata (to rugby).
pre or during 2025 - Maddax Fui, Nav Willett, Alex Isdale, Onitoni & Ashton Large, Zak Clarke, Chris Faagutu, Jordan Miller, Cocklin Galvin, TDS.

I would say for most of the above was due to other plays in our pathways ahead of them & they felt seemingly blocked and saw better opportunities elsewhere.

On the flip side, we recruited to our pathways Fonua Pole (2021), Bula (2022), Feledy, the Taotua twins (2024), Jared Haywood, Logan Brookes, Xavier Tauaifaiga, Christian Taupau-Moors, Broederlow and also Sam & Latu Fainu as teenagers.

And currently we have the likes of Makasini, Haywood, Godinet, Taupau-Moors, Mason, Sukkar, Saukuru, Broederlow locked in for the next 1-4 years and some exciting talent coming through in Havea Jr, Duncombe, Tavana, Kanaan, Brookes, Nicholas amongst others.

So what I'm saying, yes it's always disappointing when particularly a local junior leaves but always look at who is in front of them in their position & who is coming up behind them.

Things are never as good as they seem and THINGS ARE NEVER AS BAD AS THEY SEEM.
