Bud Sullivan is more than capable of doing the same and without being proven at NRL level, it’s a near certainty that Latu Fainu and Lachlan Galvin will also be more than capable of doing the same within the next season or two.

You cannot compare two unproven kids to a dude who has played Orign, lead a minnow nation to a World Cup final and has 3 premiership rings. It’s not a near certainty at all. So many juniors have been talked up over the years only to fall by the wayside in first grade. I’ll leave it at that as someone is bound to take my words out of context.

Luai didnt win 3 grandfinals he just played in them .The last one he did very little .we dont know what hell be like without Cleary a big gamble i think.Looks like were going to find out.

A lot of people are saying that Luai benefited from being in a strong team.
But you could also make a point that when from mid way 2019 until now the panthers have been a much more formidable outfit since Luai made the 17.
The full 2020 year especially hard to say it was a strong team prior to the season starting…

I still think the importance of the number on their back is overstated.

At 6 or 7, Luai offers a direct attacking approach- a player able to take the line as easily as find gaps for support players.

He is second fiddle to Cleary. Much in the way Kieran Foran was second fiddle to DCE.

I don't think he will morph into a Cleary clone out of necessity. He will be Jarome Luai, in Tigers colours.

The important thing is to match him up with someone more attuned to directed the team around in a Cleary/DCE-style.

Next season, that player is Sezar. Sullivan is more like Luai as a player & will probably play a similar role.

Galvin vs Fainu as the directional player is the most likely outcome. Fainu is probably the most likely as Galvin's body type might allow him to play other positions.

Luia or Fainu plays 7. Doesn't REALLY matter who. It's the role they play on the field that matters. Fainu is more your Foran/Cliff Lyons type imo.

We know what he looks like.

I can tell you what luai has done without Cleary right now 1. Taken Samoa to a World Cup final 2. Maintained a 80% win rate without Cleary (win rate drops to 50% without luai) and I know this one doesn’t technically count but luai was NSW best player in origin game 2 this year as well as out performing Cleary in game 1 this year and games 1 and 3 last year

That's what I'm saying- doesn't really matter. If he's not wearing 7, I suspect Fainu does. But I don't expect the way they play to differ regardless, so the number means very little.

Ice could say whatever he wanted. The ink was dry and our club had him by the balls.

I think the important thing to take from this is from when the 10 days starts. The player has 14 days to sign or reject the offer he originally accepted.
Either way there is closure within 2 weeks.

It won’t settle anxiety over Xmas though if he isn’t announced next week. Though I think Bateman was announced on Boxing Day last year, which was interesting.

Most likely, through sheer experience if nothing else.

But he's more Benji than Prince. Not a bad thing, but I don't think we should be expecting him to suddenly be a game manager.

I believe that is Fainu in the future.

Luai = what our former #7 SHOULD have been. IMO.
