What is stopping Canterbury offering $6.5 million for 5 years now? I haven’t seen it written that they can’t up their offer.

I don't see it happening but do agree you should have to sign with your current club or take up the new offer after the 10 day period.

This rule was brought in to give the current club a chance to have a final shot at offering a contract extension, which I have no problem with. Kinda like the Tualigi scenario ‘which thankfully it wasn’t implemented before he left for manly otherwise we would still have him’.

so if the previous situation was player signs with rival club and current club or any other club has to suck it up.
Why would the NRL introduce a rule that not only benefits the current club but increases the chance of a month long bidding war?

I’m not sure the scenarios we are playing out as possibles are what the NRL had in mind by introducing this rule.

I’m not sure the scenarios we are playing out as possibles are what the NRL had in mind by introducing this rule.

The rule was brought in to assist current clubs to retain talent, I don't mind that. My thoughts are when it was raised with the players association that they negotiated to add the ability for a player to still back out. That was likely one of the hold ups on the CDA and it resulted in a broken rule.

Until it burns us and we know for sure that it was the 10 day period that burned us, I don’t get the anxiety around it. People jumping at shadows.

I can’t believe how stupid this new system is. I mean who behind a computer thought this was a good idea. You sign a contract , you can’t get it out off it, move on. What a soap opera coming up .

That’s ridiculous given Brooks has never been in the stratosphere of money that LuaI plans to make,

Although he has agreed to the deal with the Tigers if the Bulldogs still want him surely they will be throwing out some numbers to Luai's management behind the scenes to test if they are in with a shot. Gus is too quiet I don't believe for a minute that they are out of it yet.

It's not a cooling off period. It's a last right to negotiation in favour of his current club.

This only happens when the contract is submitted to the NRL based on terms agreed by the player and the new club. Terms are agreed.

Does that bind the player to that contract if he does not accept his current clubs offer? That, I don't know.

Agree, though the system seems clunky and there's more to play out with various situations across different players and clubs to see the true impact of this new rule.

IMO the rules will be fine tuned - amended; to take in this scenario and other like situations into account.

Now or in 10 days I think we’re almost certainly done either way
10 days from Friday is Christmas Day so maybe that’s when we can officially unwrap the presents

Very similar, both have big average kicking games and both really only play a part or shine with their running game when their team is well and truly on the front foot.
Bud Sullivan is more than capable of doing the same and without being proven at NRL level, it’s a near certainty that Latu Fainu and Lachlan Galvin will also be more than capable of doing the same within the next season or two.
