Luai didnt win 3 grandfinals he just played in them .The last one he did very little .we dont know what hell be like without Cleary a big gamble i think.Looks like were going to find out.
I can tell you what luai has done without Cleary right now 1. Taken Samoa to a World Cup final 2. Maintained a 80% win rate without Cleary (win rate drops to 50% without luai) and I know this one doesn’t technically count but luai was NSW best player in origin game 2 this year as well as out performing Cleary in game 1 this year and games 1 and 3 last year

I don’t think it’s a given he plays 7. Did he play 7 in the World Cup?
That's what I'm saying- doesn't really matter. If he's not wearing 7, I suspect Fainu does. But I don't expect the way they play to differ regardless, so the number means very little.

I agree. The important thing is, Luai will be the dominant half regardless.

Most likely, through sheer experience if nothing else.

But he's more Benji than Prince. Not a bad thing, but I don't think we should be expecting him to suddenly be a game manager.

I believe that is Fainu in the future.

Luai = what our former #7 SHOULD have been. IMO.

Geez know you like to bank on Juniors but comparing them to Luai…. Luai would be on cheat mode compared to them
Most have been asking for a dominant game controlling half with a strong kicking game.
That’s not Luau, he’s never demonstrated those qualities.
He’s purely a ball runner as was Brooks and we know how that turned out.

You can't be further from the truth. Cleary did the majority of the kicking, but Luai is no slouch.

Very similar, both have big average kicking games and both really only play a part or shine with their running game when their team is well and truly on the front foot.
Bud Sullivan is more than capable of doing the same and without being proven at NRL level, it’s a near certainty that Latu Fainu and Lachlan Galvin will also be more than capable of doing the same within the next season or two.
Well done, you've officially eclipsed earl, the self confessed cone head, as dunce of the forum with this unbelievably dumb post.

I'm genuinely curious: do you wake up with the intention of making the stupidest post anytime you're on here or is it by sheer accident?

17 players in that winning team this year and two prior

Care to list exactly who merely played and who won?
Ink if you are being fair dinkum, you could have played 6 in those Panthers sides and they still would have won.
Luai was a passenger who rode on Cleary’s coat tails.

Very hard to stay at ther top of the game week in week out for seasons on end

Cleary killed it when it was needed, but even he has had off days...we are talking about multiple seasons here not just one game

Its a stupid argument alluding that he has had nothing to do with their success...it just points to personal dislike

Luai isn’t just a running half. Actually at the panthers he runs less than Cleary, his efficiency rate at the panthers is more effective than Cleary as well with ball in hand - based on ball handling, line break & try assists, offloads output etc. 2 seasons back he had multiple seasons of 14+ line drops a season. I’m not at all saying he is better than Cleary but he isn’t just a ball runner. He owns his side of the park, formations, calls etc and picks when he roves.

Luai has far more to his game than just running.
But he also knows his role well. Watch him for Samoa. His running game didn’t win Samoa games, he was leading the team all around the park & he really played a different style to that of which he plays at the Panthers.

I actually think his style potential game play for us will be very similar to Prince with Fainu/Galvin/Bud having the ability to just be themselves for their early years which if they hit potential will create nightmares at times for teams.

It’s early days and Luai needs to actually sign but he hands down makes us better by a longshot.

You’re arguing with a moron. He thinks Brooks and Seyfarth are great players.

That’s just dumb.
We get it you don’t like it the move to sign him but no player is a passenger playing 100+ games winning 3 comps, playing SOO and leading Samoa to the Finals.

Funny enough Luai has an 82% win percentage, Cleary has a 70% win percentage at the Panthers. When Cleary hasn’t had Luai beside him his win rate drops by 17%.

Glad you aren’t in charge of our recruiting decisions.

Be interesting to see how Cleary goes without Luai and that gun Crichton.

Even Cogger gone.

After all the leaks in recent times seems likely they have gone over the top.

Exactly. I'm more excited about how Luai played those times Cleary wasn't there. They were the occasions he proved he is more then just a role player. IMO Luai has stepped up more in big games then what Cleary has. Cleary was shocking in the Grand Final, worst player on the field until the final 20 minutes where he was the best. Both are very good players, far from great but very good.
