Didnt he also say when signed by the Dogs that he wouldnt raid Penrith for some 2 years? Then the Penrith based signings began for the Dogs almost straight away.

This is an excerpt from Ciraldo's interview with SEN this morning:
The big question is can Luai make the switch from a running five-eighth to a chief organiser in the No.7 hot seat?
However, Ciraldo has known Luai for a long time and has no doubt he has what it takes to be a quality halfback in the NRL.
“Jarome can do anything he wants really,” Ciraldo said.
“He is a quality player who loves footy and he loves his teammates.
“That’s the challenge of someone like that if he is looking for that challenge.
“But I have seen Jarome since he was 17 years old and every challenge that has been thrown at him he has latched onto and gone after it and ultimately succeeded.
His winning ratio in every grade he has played is unbelievable, so yeah Jarome can do anything he wants if he puts his mind to it.”
Sounds pretty impressive to me getting that from a current head coach who has coached Jarome personally for a number of years. I know Gus also said once that Luai was rated a better talent than Cleary in juniors and Luai was the halfback in juniors with Cleary on the bench. I guess this is a good comparison to Fainu and the other promising players, they might be great now but who knows how their career will pan out. It is normally the hardest working players who succeed, not the most talented.

Just on this - Luai is also 5 years older than Cleary, so it stands to reason he would have been picked first. I wouldn't read too much into it.

They're the same age. But yes I think Ciraldo is close with Luai so it is probably just the usual praise you get from being mates

The reason I heard Cleary debuted in 2016 and Luai debuted later is Luai's body was very slim and not ready for NRL. The talent was always there

Theres one thing that I think will get Jarome Luai here.
Its not just money.
Its not just security through length of contract.
It is the respect he craves.
This guy has been instrumental in Penrith reaching 4 grand finals in a row yet has to sit to the side while everyone praises Nathan. In the WC he led Samao to the final and spoke some shit about besting Cleary, only for Nathan to play like a legend and flog him. In last year's GF he played busted and likely hoped that he would be spoken about as Cronk was when he played busted against Melbourne and won. In the end he had to come from the field with Penrith in deep poop, only to watch Nathan engineer an astonishing comeback and gain all the glory once again. He has acted a little catty towards Cleary with outing his secret relationship and copped a public backhander from his father.
I dont think he'll stay there. Having said that, coming here is a huge risk, however there are some decent players here already and potentially more yet to be unearthed. He is likely weighing up his chances of leading this joint back to the finals and how that will look for his legacy. The fact he will be better rewarded finacially is probably the sealer. My concern is whether he can do it outside that Penrith system.

Very well articulated. If I was him, I'd want to leave too, but the risk of coming here is very high. I reckon it comes down to one thing in the end. Obviously family will be huge, but knowing footy players, fame, success and money is their main motivation. He has to choose the 'toxic' environment of playing under Coach Ivan who can publicly devalue him whenever he wants and get a pass from the media with little resistance as Nathan is the best player in the game and receives favouritism from Dad. Or he can come to the toxic environment of the Tigers where the unknown is huge with leaks and dysfunction from the board, coaches and players. It's hard to say which is the easier option. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't.

There’s nothing damned about him staying at Penrith and building on the greatest dynasty since the Dragons in the 60’s. It’s a desperate narrative that some are painting, claiming he can do it himself here. I don’t think that will motivate him in the slightest. The only reason he come here is for money, nothing else. Don’t kid yourself.

If he sees success here, its likely he will be given the credit for it.
Api, Klem, Paps, Bateman and Bula all played here last year and achieved didly squat.
If he comes here and gets us firing, those guys wont get the credit even though they will be up to their necks in it.

Most of those things he hasn't ticked off are individual awards. He's a backup role player at penrith and is coached by Ivan to play that way, perhaps now he wants some individual recognition? As we have seen with Nicho Hynes and Jack Wighton, you can win a Dally M in a team where not many players take points off you and with less good players around you. At Tigers the only two I could see taking Dally M points off Luai if he were to succeeed would be Koroisau or Bula. Forwards don't get many points unless their name is Haas or Fisher-Harris. I thought he was very unlucky to not get the Golden Boot award last year. Manu got it because of that 400 metre game in the middle of the year when Luai played origin. Luai was essentially the best player of the world cup along with Addo-Carr. Based on all of that. I'd say he is less likely to win individual awards at Penrith. He is not important to penrith. I'd have in order of importance to Penrith: 1. Cleary, 2. Edwards, 3. Yeo, 4. JFH, 5. To'o, 6. Leota, 7. Martin, 8. Luai
