OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Is it though?
His legacy is already written. Walking away from a team who has appeared in 5 GFs in a row shows me he is looking towards financial security, rather than further legacy.
Disagree. After Rossi won his first world title, people said it was the bike, not the rider. He switched to Yamaha & kept winning. Similar to Luai with the insistence by many that Penrith's success has been much more Cleary than Luai. Success for Luai at WT would validate his move & extend his legacy further.

Richo often reminds us he took Penrith from the spoon to Premiers in two years ..

To be fair to him,.. he isn’t the one still using the former inept management as an excuse
Also admits there was a fair bit of pain at Souths before the success came. It’s not a linear thing but blind Freddy can see things have improved under him.

Improved ..but still came last …

I hope things get better next season… but I’ll have to see it rather than people tell me now that it’s just going to happen …

Shame you can’t bet on race horses after the race. We’d all be millionaires.

I’m not a fan of clauses but one thing it does do is sure up the team for 2years
Yes, but we were led to believe, as were the squad that this was sured up for the next 5 years.
That may be a little less secure now.
We don’t have to worry about blooding a half to steer the team around
All options we had would of taken time to gel and needed top line forwards to be effective

Bud - suck it and see option
Latu- potential
Galvin- proven to be a starter but I expect would struggle to lead the team around
Sezer- experienced but as we’ve seen unable to drag us off the bottom
Bud, Latu and Galvin are 4-5 years away from being able to consistently do it.
Thats why the purchase of a top liner for that amount of time was critical. By the time Luai was done, the reigns could be confidently handed over.

We'll see.
I think he knows damn well it was mostly Nathan

Rofl the amount of people losing their crap over something that may or may not happen in 2-5yrs time is nuts.

If the wests tigers struggle his value drops.

If we perform and move up the table his value is hardly going to sky rocket as he is already at the top end of that and will be hitting his 30s.

He might not work out for us and it could save us a big payout.

Seriously so much panic about nothing.

If we play poor next year but he personally shines, you think the interest in him drops from rivals?
Likewise, if we have a good year next season and he leads us well do you seriously think he has reached the pointy end of compensation?
As long as he plays well next year, this will be hanging over the clubs head as it is a news worthy item.
Its a risk event I didnt even contemplate as he was locked away for 5 years. My biggest concern was how well the side gells with his playing style and how fast the pups can be brought up to speed to aid him.

Pardon my ignorance, but if he does have a successful couple of years with us, what’s to stop him saying he’s worth more than 1.2 mill, pay up or goodbye ?
You should pay your players market rate anyway. Players just agitate regardless of their contract status. Look at hunt.

Someone please hand me my dummy, I feel like having a spit. Bugger it ,no point really, it is what it is .
Glad we have him for at least 2 years.18months ago to mention Luai would be here ,you'd be howl'd out of town
Absolutely.

Nothing has changed for 2025. In fact Nothing has changed at all in the last 2 days except the fans know, the clause was already there.

I think this puts pressure on Benji. No improvement and he has to be gone by Rd 10 imo. Can't waste any more time.

However for the money he's on and with what we've got around him im not worried yet that Luai just packs up and leaves in 2 years. Frankly if he wanted to a contract wouldn't keep him here anyway.

The PR damage is the worst bit, in reality its a reminder that we have improved at all yet, since no footy has been played for 2025!
Let's assume it's a simple player option without any limitations. The worst thing is that the wolves will be circling after just 12 months which creates noise and negative headlines for us as well as uncertainty at losing your main half.

I just hope the clauses are a little less simple than him being able to move on after 2 years.

The timing sits right when the new franchises will be building teams, so the money on offer for him could be huge.

We may not be able to compete. I doubt he goes to PNG, but Perth will want a franchise player to build a team around.

Latu Fainu will also be off contract around the same time.

This is worst case scenario of course.

In saying the above, if we win games, it will go a long way to avoiding any of this. We have the team to do it right now. Results need to be immediate regardless of any clauses.
