OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

It's a No from me as welll. He isn't the best coach but is probably the right coach for us now. We have a plan (not that it has been shared in depth) and he has a contract to deliver on that plan. We need to stick to our guns under the new regime and see the plan out. We have jumped from plan to plan so often we have had no direction. It is time, for the long term benefit of the club, to stick tight and ride it out. Unless he starts heading down a cliff he has my support (despite not liking some of his decisions and methods).

We shoudl finihs about 12th this year and, touch wood the bottom of the 8 in 26 (trusting that we land a couple of decent forward fish). We are off the pace sure, there are better rosters further off it though. Our "style" will grow once we have a settled halves combination and add a touch of go forward.
Yep , it takes time , but we both know its a very simple game on the paddock.

When I think of mongrel I think of players like Tino, JWH, players that intimidate the opposition
Yeah, that’s our missing link. They’re not easy to come by unfortunately.

By comparison the Roosters at one point had JWH, May, Lindsay Collins, Leniu and Lodge. And got bundled out on the finals.

You need an engine room in the NRL.

We've been soft in the forwards since 2004.
Yes we won in 2005 but Sheens gentrified the team n the mongrel has been missing ever since.

Great when he’s on. Still young. But really inconsistent.
One of my favourite Players.
All the promise in the world, Just doesn't have the grunt to go with it for mine.

Too happy just to be out there - He needs to get out of 1st gear.
He's been super disappointing.

Penrith's pack is better than ours but they also manage to turn our rejects into viable players.

Look at Eisenhuth and Garner. Scott Sorenson was a journeyman nobody.

It's Cleary, Yeo and Edwards organising that team around the pitch.

Luai winning a few games a year without Cleary doesn't mean squat. Stepping in to an established system with half a team of rep level players isn't difficult. Truthfully, you take half of 5/8ths in the league and transplant them into Penrith's team and they 4 peat over the same period.

It's the same issue as with Brooks. People constantly make excuses for underperforming halves citing the pack sucks, but fail to realise there's a direct correlation between your halves being able to organise and how effective your pack is.

Give Melbourne or Penrith a bunch of fringe first grader and give our team an origin level pack and we'd still find a way to get rolled. No good having the horses if there's no purpose behind what you are doing.

I love Luai

I get the frustration that the cohesion has fallen away in the second half of the season.

I get that Luai (and Benji) is still trying to figure out his role in the team.

But he IS a culture builder. Over time he will change our culture. I am 100% convinced of it.
100% agree and what a lot of people forget is that he has literally played a handful of games with Latu and is still trying to build a combo, on top of that Bula has been missing as well. This time next year unless we are rocked with injuries our spine will be on fire.

He stepped up when Cleary was out. He has shown he is capable of it.

I’ll take a career first graders opinion over fans observations. At the start of the season Cooper Cronk predicted Jarome would struggle at halfback unless our pack would allow him to play on the front foot.
Go through all our games and look to see which ones he was most effective in and correlate that to the impact of the pack. The second Newcastle game is the best example of how different we look behind a dominant pack (coincidentally the knights fielded their most inexperienced pack in that game). Luai would have had a field day against the Roosters where once again the Roosters pack was decimated by Origin.
You want the best of your halves get your forwards dominating.
