OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

If we have a bunch of players leave because Luai leaves they're not very team first are they?

A lot of apologists here for an average player who is significantly overpaid. A player our team played just as well, if not better without.

Yes he's helped turn us around and contributed greatly off the field, but we can also do a lot better than paying 1.2m to a guy who's average and likely to regress as he enters his 30s.
'Yes he's help turn us around' - how much would we have paid for that?

The things a few wins will make you believe. It would be a significant loss if he were to leave, and we just wouldn’t be throwing it over to Madden or Andrews. We’d be going to the market.
Maybe, it's a long way off yet to start worrying about it and we won a few without him plus you forgot Latu.

Even if we had to go to market if the team keeps tracking the way it is we would find it easier to find a replacement than back in the dark years.

You have very quickly forgotten where we came from. If he leaves, it impacts the culture.

I am also not sure how players following him means they arent team first? They arent looking to break existing contracts.

We should be angry that luai was about to remove his clauses at the end of last year. That bula was about to sign a 4 year extension. That Terrell was ready to commit long term.. none of those things have transpired.

We are flying at the moment so it covers the cracks, but as a club, the wests tigers are no better than the stg ill dragons.

Think most are just afraid of the potential domino effect should he leave. If he does are Turuva, Hunt, the May bros etc will they leave as well if he goes? You hope not but we should also be prepared.
Yeah that’s what I’d be concerned about too. We’re in a good position halves wise and culture wise now, but Jarome has been a huge part of that culture shift and camaraderie built between the Polynesian players in particular. I’d hate to see some of them walk also.

I am a little surprised also that Luai would want to go now when the team is finally on the rise. I thought he might want to take us to a through to a crack at the title at least.

I mean ..if the players here all like each other and the coach …and more importantly are winning games on the field …I don’t get why they would want to leave ?

Luai is a little different ,,, he has pretty much done everything in the game and come 2028 will be 31 about to sign his last contract …

It’s extremely likely they will be both be still here next year even if they decide to leave …so they have a bit of time to get their replacements sorted ,,,Im more concerned about Bula then JL to be honest …

Yes.. they are “vulnerable “ to them leaving …but all of those players on that list are going to require more money than they are getting now to stay here …Luai’s money should assist there
Bula has no contract for next year
Sam has already been offered $700k for five years and Masi similar, how much more money do we need ?

People keep saying Luai is confirmed for 2027, but if that were the case, would he not be allowed to be making contact with the PNG Chiefs? My understanding is they still have the same requirements as any NRL team and can only enter the market from Nov 1 2026

Alright so should we just fold the club at the end of his 5 years? The way you guys carry on is insane like no footy club can ever succeed without the almighty Jarone.

Roy Asotasi was the famous signing that turned Souths around. When did they win a comp? The year he left. Obviously there were other signings and players who emerged, but the point is you can have someone turn you around and it's not the end of the world if they go.

If we immediately revert to being a basket case because an average 5/8th leaves us, then we weren't that good to begin with. Penrith has barely missed a beat without him and but for Reece Walsh becoming superman, they would've had a 5th premiership last year.

I cant help but think that surely this has all been out in the open internally at the tigers.

I just cant see jarome dropping this on the team without prior notice, not after what happened with Galvin

We still have the same owners mate. So we will always be a basket case at heart, despite the gloss every now and then.

I think the response has been mostly ok with it.
