OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Fair point. Kinda sounds like a standard PR mgr role though. Not sure having your CEO skillset aligned on managing the message is smarter than the leader having the actual skills to build a football club in such a complex environment
He’s not the ceo mate . Thats some older lady I dunno her name . A big name in PNG though out of the mines. He’s in charge of football operations . So basically Phil Gould

As Tigers supporters we need to look forward to the future .. so Luai might go the PNG Chiefs in 2028 .. that mean we have Luai for the remaining season of 26 .. we also have him for 27 .. !! We signed him for a 5 year deal .. with a clause which is he could leave after 4 (which is in 27). He'll be 31 years old in 28 .. and by then we will still have Latu Fainu, Javon Andrews, and maybe Jock Madden and Adam Doueihi. Who knows he might opt to stay with our side in 28 if we are top 4 side by then. Our side will change by 2028 .. younger players coming through and new signings .. the money saved from Luai's last year will give us heaps in the pocket to spend resigning and new signings. For now lets enjoy the ride we are now on for 26 .. and hopefully a better one in 27 .. !!

I still don't know who at the club is handling contract negotiations - is it SM? Is that in line with his expertise because it is critical for this clubs improvement that we retain the players Benji wants or there is a whole lot of clubs with money who will pick them off
No its not his area of expertise. Not sure the inner workings but I think we should be hiring somebody experienced in that

Thats the crux of it and has been said many many times already....

If anything its the personality he has that some fans love and will miss and be upset with if he goes

Bring RID or Bushman's insect repellant for use against anopheles' mosquitoes. Wear long lightweight trousers and shirt covering body especially at dawn or dusk. Malaria is a real threat and PNG acquired malaria is virulent, writing from experience. Tonic water with quinine will be your friend.
I couldn't live there, the thought of mosquito's high pitch buzzing around your head causing bugger all sleep doesn't appeal to me.

Plus, Malaria isn't the only threat, there are other nasties to pick up off them as well.

Well this is a kick in the guts for us tigers fans , he has been saying all the right things about how close the group is and he loves the club , but here he goes , I got to see how much more money I can make and stuff my team mates , NOW I know money rules , but he will not retire with nothing , he will have millions but away and then there is a TV job , so how much do these players want , but more important, he came here on big money to make this club a strong force , and we are going in the right direction, and he wants to jump ship . If he comes out and says Iam going , SHOW him the door ASAP
This really pisses me off

A good CEO will use his connections to achieve results. He is up there with Probabaly the most connected people in rugby league and from reports is like a dog with a bone, a real hard worker.
Chammas isn’t the CEO he’s their GM of football. I asked myself the same question about that and can only assume he has multiple relationships with players and player managers across the game. Time will tell how he goes

Yeah let's cut off our nose to spite our face, split the playing group, lose our greatest asset of team unity and do another rebuild.
That makes perfect sense to me.

Yep I did get my wires crossed. Still and interesting appointment. It would be interesting to see if there was much competition for the role.

Non-story. Can tell watching Luai that he’s fully invested in this team. Would be doing himself a disservice if he didn’t listen to what PNG are offering.

The real story is when will this club announce the retention of some of our young superstars of the future.

Totally agree, this is going to happen a heap more with PNG and Perth, more marquee players will be going to check it out. Luai probably just doing Chammas a solid by looking like he is interested to attract other players but I would be surprised if he went, he seems like he loves to win and going from a future contender to a battler to end his career seems like a too hard basket option.

Whilst i too am not overly concerned with Luai getting paid a bag of money elsewhere in 2028, you could look at this the other way. He has to make a call in the next few days about staying on at the Tigers, the only real alternative where he could get extra $$ that would be attractive enough to make the move is PNG. The guy has to do his due dilligence. I could be wrong, however i recall reading that his option this year is for the remainder of his contract.
