OFFICIAL Jarome Luai - #295

Pretty sure those that didn't like him before he came here like him even less now and can hate on him comfortably. Polarising character with too much confidence and we know how that rubs people the wrong way.

Good outcome - club first decision - which was triggered by Jarome's decision to go to PNG.
Professional response from both parties despite the rumour mongers trying to create a false narrative.
It would just be great for this club to get through a season without a midyear sacking walkout.

This is my beef... your last sentence.
Nothing else matters

I actually think people like him when he speaks - seems like a nice and humble guy.

I think the standing over guys and screaming in their faces on the field or rubbing peoples faces in things is what people hate - almost every player that was known for being chirpy on the field, didn't get much love from the wider fan base - Mahoney, Ennis, Hodges, Mulitalo, Will Chambers etc. - I don't think it's isolated to Luai.

It’s third party , the basis of 3rd party means it’s independent of clubs and his would be one of the few that is actually independent as the club doesn’t need to organise them as he will be the face of the club in a one club country
Apparently the tigers got pissed off ( and rightly so ) that they had to register the third party deals for another club as PNG are not yet part of the NRL - so that now falls on Parra. Its being claimed the TPAs are up to 3.5 mill over 4 years.

Luai is lip service. Team first never, Luai first always.

How he agreed to the PNG deal with 3rd party payments into a year he is signed with us that needed us to submit them is a deadset joke. Especially mixed with working for them during the season as well.

He and Moses and the Eels deserve each other, hope they finish last,

He hasn’t played a first grade game yet .. lets be a little cautious about comparing him to 300 gamer ET.. this time last year Maka was going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread
Like Tommy Talau a few years ago, all the lower grade experts on here were talking him up like another Reg Gasnier/ Mal Meninga but ultimately ended up a flopperoo.
Let’s hope Makasini fares a lot better.

Any player in his position would take that $3m TPA

But you'd think PNG was always in the back of his mind, hence the clauses from day 1...its been well known for a while now.
So if hes known this would be how it all eventuates....bar WTs telling him to go earlier...if he knew all this the 'team first' and 'im here forever' stuff looks pretty hollow now

I couldn’t think of anything worse than signing a player for 12 months before they move somewhere else. Regardless who it is. It’s why I wanted nothing to do with Connor Watson. They’re just in a holding pattern. Treading water. Parra are so desperate they have done it two years in a row.

I think he signed for us at the end of 2023. I don't think PNG was even announced then.

I have no issues with him asking for options, we gave them to him to get him across the line.

Once he's here, what else can he say other than that he's committed when he keeps getting asked for it?

I honestly don't think anyone at WT, PNG, Jarome etc have done anything illegal, immoral or unethical.

It's just on the NRL to make the whole contract situation like it is now. They want to keep it like that because it keeps them in the news.

It kinda reminds me of Elon Musk talking about economists:
Two economists are walking in a forest when they come across a pile of shit.
The first economist says to the other “I’ll pay you $100 to eat that pile of shit.” The second economist takes the $100 and eats the pile of shit.

They continue walking until they come across a second pile of shit. The second economist turns to the first and says “I’ll pay you $100 to eat that pile of shit.” The first economist takes the $100 and eats a pile of shit.

Walking a little more, the first economist looks at the second and says, "You know, I gave you $100 to eat shit, then you gave me back the same $100 to eat shit. I can't help but feel like we both just ate shit for nothing."

"That's not true", responded the second economist. "We increased the GDP by $200!"

I always hope Parra finish last next to Souffs both on zero points for breaching the salary cap and being terrible on the field.

He’ll never admit it, hence we’ll never know. Either way, the team first, “I’m here forever” still looks bad for him. Not that he’ll care with the money he’s making. Unless of course there is a complete crash of the legal system over there, or the whole thing is found to be fraudulent and he and the rest of them end up millions out of pocket. Dreams are free.

PNG has been discussed for nearly 20 yeaars
2014 the Hunters started in the Qld Cup
2021 the PM announced his desire for a team in the NRL and 2023 they started to become favourite for the new franchise

Anyway good luck to him Id probably do the same...
