Ha!!!! Alas no, never seen in Sydney / Canberra. Spent 6 weeks in London and Europe over Dec- Jan. I was insufferable until I got scotch eggs from Sainsbury's. Needless to say I got my fill to last me until next visit in a year or so. Don't think I will visit in winter though next time.

Interesting side-note: scotch eggs did not originate in nor were they named for Scotland.

While $600m is peanuts when it comes to upgrading, building, or purchasing modern, battlefield-ready hardware and systems, what that $600m can do over that time is train and strengthen our current personnel, as well as attract new recruits, in what is a new, modern age of warfare due to drones.

Our current armed forces (land, air and sea) number just over 90,000. China’s number over 2,000,000 and growing. Look at Ukraine and how it has used technology to stave off Russia.

The Chiefs’ Club will not protect our borders, nor will it change the influence and debt that China has plunged PNG into. Sure, it’s a feel good story, but that’s all it is, a politically brokered story by the Labor government.

Edit: PNG have around 4000 active armed forces.

And I'm afraid you aren't paying attention to the diplomatic news. Less than a year after the PNG bid was accepted for the NRL, PNG signed a formal military alliance with Australia on 6th October 2025. They do not have an alliance with any other nation. It just went into formal effect July this year.

The Australian Govt has veto power on the Chiefs funding - they can withdraw funding if PNG sets up security arrangement with countries outside the Pacific, without consulting Australia. NRL would also be compelled to remove the team.

Which would make sense. Tigers fans have every right to feel emotional about the matter given it affects them. Then there's neutrals and most people I know don't have an issue with it

Thats the part I don’t get. He was cleared by the medical team to travel. But he hadn’t even had scans yet so. Unless he has been ruled out of next week any professional sportsperson would be rehabbing immediately and any professional club would be saying “injury assessment & rehab first your club for 2028 second” but I get it we obviously have zero balls in our management.

Promoting PNG is in the NRL's best interest and Jarome L is part of that. Instead of bagging WTs they made the decision not to be part of it by moving him on - they either knew this was coming or feared it might. It now becomes a Parramatta issue. Plenty of things this club does arse up but they were proactive in this decision and put the club ahead of the player.

Good post. To address shortfalls in the ADF, the Aust Govt has permitted the recruitment of young men and women from Pacific Island nations as well as other nations.

The Chiefs have to promote his signing widely as do the NRL. They want the club to be a success from the start.

Parra are the ones who should feel annoyed. You can almost guarantee he’ll make one or two trips over the next season.

Sets a great example for the squad once he's gone, making a rod for their own backs.

Thanks. Certainly didn't know that. Scotch eggs were a treat when I lived over there in late 80's. Stovies was my regular dinner. There was a small free weekly Australian news magazine that I would pick up on my way to work that had oz rugby league and union information for a minor dose of league news from the antipodes.

it will be interesting next year if Parra don't make the semis. They will finish playing in Sept but he will still be contracted until Nov. 2 months they will be paying him while he spends the majority of time in PNG setting things up - farcical.
