Moving Klemmer on may be just bullshit from the media , he was one of our best last season , can’t believe Benji would start the same shit over , won’t happen , but the club does need to come out and say Klemmer is rock solid with us and mean it
Yeah, just like there are certainties in life — death, taxes, and one thing is for sure: Dave Klemmer will be at the Wests Tigers next year. 🤡

If Lee can come out and state this unequivocally then I will have no trouble sleeping at night. 🤣

That wouldn’t be good business on our end.
the bloke is bad for the club his 2025 salary
with AD likely not being re-signed in 2025 you could use some of his approx 600k towards paying nofo's approx 450k for him to basically play elsewhere
we need nofo out of the club it was the 4 year deal that is the major problem

Gus has finally pulled the trigger on a Panthers star – this time away from prying cameras.

After sitting back and monitoring developments with Jarome Luai, Bulldogs general manager of football, Phil Gould, has stepped forward to hold a formal meeting with the Panthers and NSW star on Wednesday.

The big-money race for Luai has suddenly become more colourful and lively.

It is understood the meeting took place around lunchtime and could be pivotal for Wests Tigers.

Well-placed sources claim Luai now has a clearer path forward after meeting with Gould and Bulldogs head coach Cameron Ciraldo.

It was expected that Gould, given Luai is close to deciding his club from 2025, discussed contract remuneration.

Luai now knows which club has lodged the biggest offer – and it’s expected to be Wests Tigers. There is an increasing theory in rugby league that Canterbury could be more interested in Warriors prop Addin Fonua-Blake and Luai.

Unlike previous meetings with Fonua-Blake and club captain Raymond Faitala-Mariner, which were photographed on fans’ phones and made public, Gould found a private and undisclosed location to meet with Luai.

Ciraldo is known to be close to Luai, the pair having developed a strong bond while at Penrith. The Bulldogs would sign Luai at the right place but the club won’t pay ‘overs’ for the Samoan star.

Those close to Wests Tigers claim the club remains more than confident of luring Luai to Concord.

Luai wants $1.2m a year – the Tigers offer stands just above $1.1m but the club does have room to increase their deal. Wests Tigers and Canterbury are Luai’s only suitors outside current club, Penrith.

With a review of club operations due to be released, and Marshall in his first full year as a head coach, Wests Tigers are desperate to sign a big name.

One player manager suggested on Wednesday that Luai and Fonua-Blake could go as a package but it is difficult to determine which club could afford both players.

Luai met with Wests Tigers powerbrokers on Tuesday and the club has tabled an offer worth around $4.5m over four years. Penrith has offered Luai around $850,000 a season – well short of their rivals.

The Panthers hope Luai may still stay given he is a local junior now shooting for four successive premierships.

Luai, 28, will return to Panthers pre-season training toward the back-end of next week given he remains contracted to Penrith for 2024.

Under the NRL’s new contracting model, Penrith will get confirmation from the NRL about the Tigers interest once Luai gives an indication that he is ready to accept the rival offer.

The Panthers will then have 10 days to convince him to alter his decision.

It is understood negotiations have not reached that point yet, although the latest meeting between the Tigers and Luai could be seen as an indication that both sides have a genuine interest in getting a deal in place as soon as possible.

Clubs understand Luai is close to deciding his future.

He is undergoing rehabilitation for a shoulder injury that will rule him unavailable for the pre-season World Club Challenge in England.

I think Penrith will let him go personally. I don’t think they’ve offered him 850k - I think he’d stay for that. They’ve offered him less.

They have a great environment for development so I think they’ll just back themselves to develop another player to support Cleary. It could be Laurie.

I think that Laurie requested to play 6 at the Tigers and some believe the panthers suggested there might be an opportunity for him. They might have suspected Luai wouldn’t stay for the money they had planned for him and started their contingency plan with Laurie.

Well I hope I'm wrong but now that Dogs have enter the race I think our chances dropped way down.

I just don't understand how the can keep buying and paying overs for aot of them as well.

I’m not that excited either. We’ve seen this all before with Mitchell who was reported as being all but over the line to sign with us.

I’m fairly certain the Dogs will swoop in at the last minute. They have money, they really do need a 7 and I just reckon the lure of teaming up with Ciraldo, Gould, Crichton, Kikau and Burton again will be a huge sway. A bigger sway than Api, Staines, Naden and Benji that’s for sure. Either that or Penrith will come to the party with a better offer and he will stay there.

Hope I’m wrong but history is on my side. We’ve just been used as a bargaining chip by elite players for so many years now.
I thought we were the ones to pull out of the Latrell Mitchell race?

My bet is that he will be here and we'll know prior to Christmas. The only thing that would frustrate me is that if he goes elsewhere or stays at Penrith and we just let it drag on forever.

Are third party payments uncapped? If so, Bulldogs are working with a $20m salary cap.

The more i read about the contract offered to Luai is well over what he is actually worth he most definitely
not a $1 million player. more in the region of $850,000 and not over that figure either.
Personally think he is a solid first grader but nothing really stands out about him or his game.

Who is better than him in the halves ?

DCE, Moses, Hunt, Reynolds, Clearly, Munster, Hughes, Brooks ?

Personally I think Clearly is the best half in the game but I'd have Luai right below him.

It’s hardly surprising they have entered the picture. Was never going be as easy as signing him to a million dollar contract without another club showing interest.

Don't think he's coming - heard from Chad that he and Api weren't getting along too well at season end 2022.

Probably just a play from management to drive up his eventual price to sign with the Bulldogs.

Gus and Ciraldo’s approach does muddy the waters a little, but it does simplify things, imo.

if Luai truly wants this resolved before he goes back to training I think we remain in the ‘box seat’.

but if this goes on longer, I’d expect him at Canterbury for 2025.

Seems like a tactic from the Dogs to throw the Tigers off the AFB trail and focus on Luai.

No way dogs could afford AFB and Luai on 1mil+ each. They have Chrichton, Burton and Mahoney all on 700k+ and Addo Carr and Kikau on also on money in that same area (slightly less). Curran, Taafe and Tracey would be on good money too.

Based on team needs, you would think Dogs prioritise AFB and Tigers prioritise Luai.
