Jason Cayless

i know this sounds like one of those 'my sisters hairdressers grocers' stories however…

one of my mates is a trainer at parramatta. he was talking to nathan cayless the other day and they they started talking about jason. nathan said that he had never seen jason as relaxed, fresh and ready to play as he is at the moment. he is really keen to get back into it after his lay off in the UK and he thinks it actually did him a world of good, could add a year or two to his career.

he is loving it at the tigers and has fit in really well with all the boys.

i for one was stoked when we signed him. it was only 4 years ago he was known as the worlds best prop. he has only just turned 30 and considering australias starting props are 35 and 34, i see no reason why he cant produce with us what he was doing at the roosters.

he is 195cm and 109kg, thats bigger then galloway! since skando and boof left we have relied on very young guys to fill the toughest position in the toughest game in the world. i think with an experienced international leading the way the likes of galloway, gibbs, woods, fifita etc will really shine.

Jason Cayless - my tip for the buy of the season!

wests-tigers needed some more size/depth in front row.
now they have got it.
having him in the team can only be a benefit .

He sounded very keen and happy on the Summertime program. He had a minor cleanout of his knee recently and has just started running again too. He should be right to go by round 1 and hopefully he backs Galloway up well in the go forward department.

He looked to be right at home on summertime, if he and sauce stay injury free all year giddy up!

I am in agreement with everyone else here. Cayless is a great buy for us proving he is over his injuries. I looking forward to seeing him in Tigers colors against the chooks in a few weeks.
Loving our forward pack atm, there is depth everywhere except hooker.

Im hoping he proves to be a good buy. i think he is capable of being a top 10 prop in the game and hope he proves to be this. im not expecting the world from him though. Many that come back relaxed from the UK dont perform back in the real league. Hope he does. 120m and 25 tackles with a couple of offloads a game will be great if he can produce this.

Like most of you, I think Cayless is a very good acquisition. Wests Tigers have many good, young forwards coming through the ranks and he will be able to give them some good guidance.
In addition, he will add heaps to our Go-forward.

needs to be one of two starting props in 2010.

Yeah I hope Cayless and Galloway are the 2 starting props. Gibbs and Payten –-->-> interchange

I think Gibbs has to be a definate starter. Gibbs gives you good minutes - can easily go a full 40mins and realistically that saves you two interchanges which is a big plus.

Gibbs is actually a great athlete with decent pace for a prop and he has some ball skills.

I agree with Payten starting from the bench, however i feel that Gibbs needs to start and Cayless to come off the bench. I think Cayless will also have more impact this way and less demands on an older body coming on after say 20mins to replace Galloway.

you missed "Gibbs will give away at least one, maybe two stupid penalties each game"

And I don't want to see them stupid penalties at the start of the game. If the other team gets too much of the ball at the start then we use alot of energy defending and it's hard to come back. I think some people are being a bit harsh on Bryce though. Sometimes if the other team makes a break then giving away a penalty isn't a bad idea. It gets our line set and gives them a breather. Gibbs could go for 40 mins but it doesn't mean he should. Our forwards will be more effective if they are given a rest at the right time and the bench is used correctly. Just because a forward can stay on the field for the whole game it doesn't mean he should. If they are on the field for too long they will use up too much energy and might not be able to give 100% percent when making a tackle or taking a hitup. They might not be able to get back the 10m as quick as they could if they had a rest when they should. Also the defensive line will move up slower if the forwards don't get a rest when they should. That's why I like having 2 props and 2 second rowers on the bench. It gives the 2 starting props and 2 second rowers a rest which mean they will be more effective when they are on.It will be interesting to see how Cayless goes. He used to be one of the best props in the world but that was years ago. I think he will be good for us though unless he gets injuries. I think Gibbs will improve a bit more and Galloway will go well again and could get a NSW and Kangaroos jersey this year. We need Payten to play as good as we know he can.

Very interested to see how Cayless goes, especially after his reported injury troubles. I have a good feeling though…

No fluke that NRL Summertime and the Marketing Dept at WT decided to focus so much on Cayless in the pre season show.

I think expectation is high accross the board. Heres hoping…..
