Competition leaders St George Illawarra are delicately balancing the process of trying to retain Red V favourite sons Ben Creagh and Jason Nightingale beyond this season.

Both local juniors, the 2010 premiership-winners will have to accept reduced offers to remain one-club players as the Dragons continue to balance the club’s salary cap.

Captain Creagh, who has played 250 NRL matches in the Red V, has been offered a one-year extension which would enable him to possibly eclipse Ben Hornby’s record of 273 games for the joint venture next year.

Kiwi Test flyer Nightingale has been offered a two-year extension until the end of 2017, with the club making the duo priority signatures given their history and standing with the Dragons.

I don't think signing average wingers is the solution to our problem.

A nothing thread really, as it won't happen.

For a number of reasons :
A. Wing position is the least of our worries as we have Nofo, Naiqama, Hoeter and maybe Richards
B. Will cost us good money as he is still a Kiwi international.
C. Has loyalty to the Dragons and would more than likely be willing to get paid less to remain there .

i wouldnt call nightingale average- reckon of the players who play wing regularly, he'd be righ up there.

though dragons had already re signed ben creagh?

Probably the smartest winger in the comp as well

Assuming Nofo and Simona are going to play in the centres then wing is our weakest position. A gun winger would make a big difference.

A winger is only a gun if someone is prepared to give him the ball. Someone buy Kevin N a yo-yo!

He's not a bad winger, but IMO he is no superstar or "gun". Keeping I mind that most players who are any good on the wing end up in the centres or fullback.

I could be wrong though, we might sign him and win the comp, but I'll keep my money in my wallet thanks.

I'll get howled down for this but I would actually take Creagh. Only 2 player in our squad have over 100 games and I think we could get 2 good years out of him. He knows the lines to run so starting him and bring Siro off the bench would work. And before anyone tosses up how he ran away in Origin I believe that looked worse than what it was. Apparently Creagh can really handle himself and isn't shy in taking anyone on.
